“Queendom 2” is the most popular content in the 2nd quarter, Twitter announces Top 10 hotttest topic

The second place is “Twenty-five, Twenty-one,” and the third place is “Our Blues.”

Twitter announced the top 10 hottest drama and series in the second quarter of 2022. Keywords related to works aired or released in the second quarter were analyzed based on the total number of organic impressions of real-time trends on Twitter in Korea from April 1st to June 30th, 2022.

Twitter Trends, which is known as a barometer of popularity, is a function that shows a list of keywords that are being tweeted simultaneously on the platform at the moment. It is determined by the algorithm and reflects the uniqueness and amount of tweets, real-time and concurrency of the keyword.

Twitter users watch content on TV and talk on Twitter in real-time, especially during or after a drama is broadcasted, which leads to related keywords dominating the real-time trend. Twitter has been releasing rankings of popular dramas and series in Korea since last quarter, reflecting the explosive amount of conversation related to dramas and series.

Looking at the rankings released this time, Mnet’s entertainment program “Queendom 2” topped the list, while tvN’s Saturday and Sunday drama “Twenty-five Twenty-one” and its follow-up “Our Blues” ranked second and third.

Netflix’s original series “Money Heist: Joint Economic Area Part 1” (hereinafter referred to as “Money House”), SBS drama “Why Her,” Netflix series “The Sound of Magic,” tvN’s entertainment “Earth Arcade“, SBS drama “My Liberation Note,” and ENA drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo.

“Queendom 2,” which ranked No. 1, is a reality/contest program in which global fans select the best girl group, and has drawn attention from Twitter even before the show with a line-up including Brave Girls (@BraveGirls), VIVIZ (@VIVIZ_official), WJSN (@WJSN_Cosmic), LOONA (@loonatheworld), KEP1ER (@official_kep1er), and Hyolyn (@officialhyolyn_).

This chart seems to reflect the firepower of Twitter’s Generation Z users and K-pop fandom, with K-pop stars’ names and competition songs trending in real-time during the broadcast. Tweets that K-pop stars posted to encourage people to watch the show through their official Twitter accounts have become hot issues.

“Why Her,” “Earth Arcade,” and “Extraordinary Attorney Woo,” which began airing in June, proved their popularity by reaching the top rankings at once despite their short airing period in the previous quarter. At the time of its 1st episode, “Why Her?” “Seo Hyun-jin’s acting” was on Twitter’s real-time trend and the drama is praised for the passionate performance of its main cast, and recently, actress Seo Hyun-jin, who played a mother who lost her child, has been highly praised.

The “Earth Arcade,” which has become a hot issue with a combination of PD Na Young-seok and MZ generation female stars, is drawing attention on Twitter with its outspoken cast and PD Na, dubbed “Brother Young-seok,” drawing laughter.

“Extraordinary Attorney Woo” is a humane court drama in which Woo Young-woo, a new lawyer with autism spectrum, grows after solving different cases, drawing much attention with the subject of social discourse on disabilities and minorities. From the first episode, “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” has been on Twitter’s real-time trend, and keywords related to this drama such as “Lawyer’s Code of Ethics,” “Kwon Min-woo,” “Woo Young-woo Whale,” “Young-woo Su-yeon,” and “Seung-jun Myung-seok” are steadily on the trend every time a new episode is broadcasted. In the 5th episode, the scene where Young-woo said to her friend Su-yeon, “You are the sunshine of spring,” went viral among Twitter users, and “Sunshine of spring” was even on top trending.

On Twitter, conversations related to “Our Blues,” “Money Hesit,” “The Sound of Magic,” and “My Liberation Note” which recently ended, were also actively held. “Our Blues” featured top stars such as Lee Byung-hun, Shin Min-ah, Cha Seung-won, Lee Jung-eun, Han Ji-min and Kim Woo-bin, while BTS Jimin’s first OST “With You” also increased the amount of conversation on Twitter.

“Money Heist” became an issue as the Korean remake of a popular Spanish drama, and the music drama “The Sound of Magic,” which is a remake of Ha Il-kwon’s popular webtoon, became popular on Twitter due to the popularity of the original webtoon and the appearance of Ji Chang-wook.

“My Liberation Note” marked a real-time trend thanks to tweets from fans who sympathized with the “Worship” couple Koo and Mi-jung’s conversations. On July 14th, when the magazine Marie Claire Korea’s official Twitter account (@marieclairekr) released the pictorial of Koo and Mi-jung, the main couple, “Koo and Mi-jung” went back on the trending chart even a month after the drama ended, and Twitter users who saw the trendy keyword started a tweet festival to remind themselves of the drama. In addition, fandoms of dramas that ended at the beginning of the quarter, such as “Twenty-five, Twenty-one” and “Business Proposal,” are still going strong on Twitter.

Kim Yeon-jung, managing director of Twitter’s global K-pop & K-content, said, “Various dramas and entertainment series have been listed on Twitter’s hot topic list,” adding, “In particular, on Twitter, dramas such as ‘Twenty-five’ and ‘Business Proposal’ have continued to be active even after the final episodes, and recently, ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’ has dominated Twitter.”
