Myung Se Bin explains the reason she took off her ‘pure first love’ image to play a mistress in “Doctor Cha”
Actress Myung Se Bin impressed viewers with her strong image transformation in “Doctor Cha”.
Myung Se Bin is starring in JTBC’s Sat-Sun ongoing drama “Doctor Cha” as Choi Seung Hee, a family medicine professor at Gusan University Hospital. Choi Seung Hee has an affair with Seo In Ho (Kim Byung Chul), the husband of the main character Cha Jung Sook (Uhm Jung Hwa).
In fact, it is not a simple love affair, but a complicated relationship. Seung Hee and In Ho were known as a couple in med school. However, In Ho had an affair with Jung Sook during the prep course MT for freshmen, and Jung Sook became pregnant with their son Jung Min. In Ho broke up with Seung Hee and married Jung Sook. Later, In Ho met Seung Hee again during a training course in the U.S. and started their affair. Even in the recent episode, it was revealed that Seung Hee’s daughter Eun Seo (So Ah Rin) is In Ho’s child.
Choi Seung Hee is also a complicated character, and the production team reportedly had a hard time looking for a woman with a graceful first love image to act as a mistress. After much consideration, actress Myung Se Bin decided to challenge the role of Choi Seung Hee.
At the drama press conference, Myung Se Bin explained the reason for her selection of the role. The actress said, “I am going to take on a new challenge with a character that I haven’t played before. I chose this character because I can express myself more strongly and show something different from the innocent and shy image that was shown before. It is not just about being nice, but it can clearly show who I am.”
She continued, “Acting is something that I’m comfortable with, but taking on this new challenge helped me interpret myself in a new way. I had a lot of concerns and also asked senior actors, including Kim Byung Chul and Uhm Jung Hwa, for advice. I want to challenge such a character again.”
Director Kim Dae Jin also expressed his satisfaction with Myung Se Bin’s performance, saying “Seung Hee was my favorite character among the four lead roles. This character can be greedy and can express herself confidently, but viewers can still sympathize with her. I was very relieved that Myung Se Bin played this role”.
Myung Se Bin debuted in 1996 through Shin Seung Hun’s “Love in my own way” music video and became famous thanks to her pure visual. Since then, she has continued her acting career by starring in various projects, such as “Goong S”, “Kill Me, Heal Me”, “Avengers Social Club”, “Bossam”, etc.
Most of the roles portrayed by Myung Se Bin exude a pure and elegant vibe. Comparing it to the characters in “Doctor Cha”, it was more like Cha Jung Sook. Therefore, the fact that she decided to play Choi Seung Hee proves her efforts to make a drastic image change in her filmography.
