Yoo Hae Jin reveals he started dreaming of becoming an actor in middle school but his parents were against it 

Yoo Hae Jin revealed the story of how he became an actor.

In the new episode of tvN’s “You Quiz on the Block”, which aired on November 16th, Yoo Hae Jin appeared as a guest.

On this day, he revealed, “It was originally my dream to become an actor. I saw the acting of Choo Song Woong, who passed away when I was in middle school. He looked unique on stage. I was so immersed into his performance while watching it. I thought ‘Is that what I wanted to do? I want to do that,’ so I kept going to the theater after that.” 

Yoo Jae Suk asked, “When you said you were going to become an actor, your parents were against it?” Yoo Hae Jin said, “At that time, I had a face that could be opposed. At that time, it was mostly handsome boys. They said that actors should be pretty boys. My friends teased me a lot.”

Yoo Hae Jin said, “As for my parents, there are many people who starve a lot and live a difficult life when acting, so they said, ‘Why do you want to do that job?’”

He recalled, “They asked me this every time I’m on military leave, ‘You have to earn money yourself. What are you going to do?’ I didn’t want to hear that, so I went out again and on my next vacation, my father said, ‘You’re a corporal, what do you want to do if you come out?’”

Yoo Hae Jin continued, “Then, when I came out on vacation in my later years, I told my father, ‘I have no change in my thoughts. I want to act.’ My father said, ‘I think you’re determined, so if you’re going to do it, do your best.’ I was very grateful. The feeling of being acknowledged by my father. That’s why I can’t forget that time.”

Yoo Jae Suk wondered, “You tried to major in theater at Seoul Institute of the Arts several times, but did you fail twice and went on to a costume department at another university?” Yoo Hae Jin said, “After that, I went to the army, but even in the army, I still had a lingering attachment to the theater department.” 

Jo Se Ho asked, “Actually, if you drop out of that school, you can be disappointed. When you go to take an exam, don’t you think, ‘I think I’m going to fail’?” Yoo Hae Jin said, “I felt like I was going to fail. I was so nervous, and I couldn’t calm down even after taking a stabilizer.” 

Yoo Jae Suk exclaimed, “Did you get all A’s while attending Seoul Institute of the Arts?” Yoo Hae Jin replied, “Seoul Institute of the Arts had new and old scholarships. Thanks to those scholarships, I was able to attend school.”

Jo Se Ho asked, “How old were you when you entered the school?” Yoo Hae Jin said, “I was 27. I entered late so I had to work harder.”
