This K-drama Went Home Empty-Handed after Baeksang, Disappointing Netizens
Netizens express disappointment upon learning that a K-drama received no awards at the 2024 Baeksang Arts Awards.
At the 60th Baeksang Arts Awards held on May 7 at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, the leading figures in the Republic of Korea’s popular culture and arts industry gathered to shine. The competition was fierce, with outstanding works nominated more than ever before.
Amidst this, a post titled “5 Unfortunate Works with No Awards at the Baeksang Arts Awards’ was quickly spread on the online community “Theqoo” on the same day, gaining a lot of sympathy.
On this day, works like “Concrete Utopia”, as well as Coupang Play’s “Boyhood”, Netflix’s “Daily Dose of Sunshine”, JTBC’s “The Good Bad Mother”, and JTBC’s “Doctor Cha” were only nominated but did not win any awards.
JTBC’s “Doctor Cha” boasted tremendous popularity last year. It received praise for its colorful characters and thrilling storyline, attracting attention and high viewership ratings.
The drama ranked first in popularity, and Um Jung-hwa and Kim Byung-chul maintained the top two spots in the weekly popularity ranking for five weeks in a row.
Especially, it achieved a rating of 18.5% in the final episode, concluding on a high note.
Users of the community Theqoo, who anticipated the awards, expressed their disappointment and left comments such as, “It’s really disappointing for ‘Doctor Cha’…,” “Wow, ‘Doctor Cha’ had a good response too,” “It’s really unfortunate timing for ‘Doctor Cha’,” “They should have recognized ‘Doctor Cha’ a bit more, seriously,” “It’s really unfortunate for ‘Doctor Cha’… I wished Um Jung-hwa would win,” “It’s a really well-made drama,” “It had good ratings too, what a waste,” and so on.
