“Golden Spoon” Actress Y Accused of Not Paying Wages to Employees

Actress Y, said to be from a wealthy family, has been embroiled in controversy over unpaid wages for clothing store employees.

According to a report by “WikiTree” on May 10, actress Y, who operates a children’s clothing shop in Jamsil-dong, Songpa-gu, did not pay about 10 million won (approx 7,000 USD) in wages to employee A from 2021 to 2022.

According to A, A worked at the children’s clothing shop represented by Y from 2021. However, four months later, the salary started to be delayed. By the fifth month, only about 50% of the total salary came in. After that, two months’ worth of salary was not paid at all.

A said, “After failing to pay the wages, I was unilaterally notified of dismissal. After that, there was no contact,” adding, “The working environment was also poor. I was forced to work alone without consent. In the nature of the work, if you work alone, you cannot have normal break times. I worked without a lunch break.”

A also revealed that the store didn’t even show them the year-end settlement details and didn’t pay the four major insurances, adding, “I know there are three to four more employees who have suffered besides me.”

In the end, A sued Y for violating labor standards law at the Seoul Eastern District Court. Y received a summary order of 2.5 million won (approx 1,800 USD) in fines in March 2023. However, Y did not pay the unpaid wages to A afterwards, and it was confirmed that A only received a portion through the government’s emergency payment system.

“WikiTree” attempted to contact Y to hear the actress’ side of the story, but was unsuccessful.

On the other hand, Y reportedly made her debut through an SBS drama in 2011 and comes from a “golden spoon” household.
