4 facts that can help you find watching “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” more interesting

Here are some small details that you might not know about “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”.

ENA’s Wednesday-Thursday drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” continues to prove its syndrome-class popularity by recording a rating of 11.7% in the latest episode. It depicts the survival of rookie lawyer Woo Young-woo (Park Eun-bin), who has a genius brain and autism spectrum disorder, at a large law firm.

◆ “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” is a 20 billion won masterpiece?

Unlike the warm and simple atmosphere of its stories, “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” is a masterpiece worth up to 20 billion won. As it was written in the script – “A whale passes by behind Young-woo”, high-quality CG was used to visualize the images of whales. Many small CG tasks, such as the image of documents in the air when Young-woo shows her extraordinary memory, are reflected in the drama. In particular, it is said that the inside of Hanbada law firm building was visualized based on a newly built filming set.

In fact, 20 billion won was only the amount invested in the production, and marketing cost has not been included. Considering the effort of the production team in conducting an all-round promotional marketing plan, such as bus advertisements and taxi applications, this cost is also estimated to easily exceed hundreds of millions of won.

◆ How did the whales appear in the drama?

Videos of real whales jumping in the scenes where Woo Young-woo finds a solution for her cases are not created by CG nor filmed directly. The production team purchased that filmed footage and added it to the drama. In particular, you can see different styles of whale videos depending on Woo Young-woo’s solutions. It is really interesting to see whales jumping coolly when Young-woo finds an idea to solve her cases, or whales tilting their heads and moving slowly in calm scenes.

◆ Details by Park Eun-bin, Kang Ki-young

The cute pink gloves, which drew attention with their appearance in the 4th episode where Park Eun-bin shows up in a school uniform and a coat, are actually the actress’ personal items. The gloves were used as an impromptu prop on the filming set. Many fans have already noticed this detail since Park Eun-bin used the gloves when she was filming the drama “The King’s Affection”.

Most of the details about the character Jung Myung-seok (Kang Ki-young) are being so well-loved, including the actor’s ad-libs scenes. The scene where he says “That’s very funny” when Woo Young-woo introduces herself, the scene where he greets “Hello, Attorney Woo Young-woo?” during his call with Woo Young-woo, and the scene where he laughs and says “She always has the final say” when Woo Young-woo returns to work were all ad-libs performed by Kang Ki-young.

In addition, in the scene where he says “Attorney Woo is a rookie who is not aware of practicalities”, Woo Young-woo’s reactions “Eh?” and “What?” were actually written as “Oh?” in the script. Each short line reflects the detailed acting of the actors.

◆ How did the drama end up being broadcast on ENA?

“Extraordinary Attorney Woo”, which has re-written the rating history of ENA Channel, was previously planned as an SBS production. It is rumored that the production was delayed and pushed to ENA but some people also said that ENA won the drama through a bold bet. In particular, “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” was decided to be released on Netflix first. ENA looked into the possibilities of Netflix and decided to invest in it from the beginning.

Thanks to this, they succeeded in avoiding excessive PPL (indirect advertisement). Although it doesn’t mean there is no PPL at all, it is less serious than the cases of other works.

Meanwhile, “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” is expected to continue its rise with the 8th episode to air at 9 p.m on July 21st. The new episode will be released on seezn and Netflix at 10:30 p.m.
