The popularity of "Lovely Runner" is spreading throughout Asia
According to Asia-wide OTT platform Viu on May 10th, tvN’s Monday-Tuesday drama “Lovely Runner” topped Viu’s weekly chart for the first week of May (April 29th ~ May 5th) in Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia.
This achievement was accomplished just 4 weeks after the local release of “Lovely Runner”. Besides the countries where it topped the chart, it also ranked second in Hong Kong and the Philippines and third in Thailand. With this momentum, there’s keen interest in whether “Lovely Runner” can maintain its current upward trend and top the chart in major Asian countries until the end of its run.
In addition, another drama featuring the lead actress Kim Hye-yoon, “Extraordinary You”, is also experiencing a resurgence in popularity thanks to the success of “Lovely Runner”. It quickly charted in Indonesia at 11th place and in the Philippines at 12th place.
“Lovely Runner” follows Ryu Seon-jae (Byeon Woo-seok), a famous idol who passed away under suspicious circumstances, purportedly by suicide, and Im Sol (Kim Hye-yoon), a fervent fan thrown into a serious crisis by his death. The latter is inadvertently given the chance to go back to the past to save Seon-jae and herself. In Korea, it reached a viewership rating of nearly 5% in its fifth week of airing and is garnering significant attention for its exceptional viewership performance.
Meanwhile, Viu is a Hong Kong-based PCCW regional OTT platform that offers popular Korean content such as “Reborn Rich”, “Taxi Driver 2” and others to 16 countries across Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Currently, it features Korean dramas like “The Escape of the Seven: Resurrection”, “Lovely Runner”, “The Midnight Romance in Hagwon” as well as variety shows like “My Sibling’s Romance” and “Whenever Possible”.
