Former Idol Reveals Shocking Reality Of Music Shows, “Cost 20 Million Won, Getting Paid 50,000 Won”

Former VICTION member Do Han-se revealed the reality of idols performing on music shows during comeback promotions

Do Han-se recently went on the paid communication app Bubble to chat with fans and shared behind-the-scenes stories of idols’ music show appearances. He said, “I love music shows. Performing on music shows is great but I cannot afford it”.

Do Han-se continued, “Like second-generation senior groups, performing on music shows does not result in much promotional effect and it costs 10 million won to promote on music shows for a week. The fee for appearing on music shows is about 50,000 won. I don’t know if it has increased these days. Back then, each group received 50,000 won for one music show.”

He then explained how much it costs to appear on music programs, saying “Since we need to look cool when making a comeback, we need to prepare the stage setting and that means we have to pay more. Adding various things like hair and makeup, styling, food, snacks and drinks for on-site staff, etc. the cost can be up to 20 million won”, adding “They’re all debts that idols need to pay. Therefore, it’s like a game for only a few teams. The cost to perform on music shows for one or two weeks is enough to shoot one more music video”.

Do Han-se added, “This is not something I need to say but I’m saying it because many of you are curious. Since you guys keep asking me to perform on music shows every time I release a new song, so I’m explaining why I don’t perform there”.

Lastly, he said, “Not many groups get paid, at least they should be headliners, the top artists on festival lineups or they’re famous not only among K-pop fans but also among the public. Or else, idols only accumulate more debts and end their contracts. It’s a good thing if you terminate the contract in the middle without making any money or completing the seven years of a contract safely.”

Do Han-se’s remarks are gaining keen attention from fans of K-pop idol groups.

Do Han-se made his debut as a member of VICTION in 2016. The group disbanded after their contract expired in April last year and Do Han-se has been promoting as a solo singer. He released “Gummy Bear” in October last year, “How Time Flies” in March this year” and “Scent of Skin” on the 18th of last month (April). Recently, he participated in the song “Burn It Down” by Lee Dong-yeol.
