How much influence does “Woo Young-woo” have? Set an awesome record for the infuriating original story in its 4th episode

The butterfly effect of the drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” is enormous.

Sales of the original works used in the ENA Wednesday-Thursday drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” (hereinafter referred to as “Woo Young-woo”) are soaring.

According to Yonhap News Agency on July 18th, the original essay book series of the 16-episode drama “Woo Young-woo” has a total of three volumes. “Woo Young-woo” is an originally planned drama, so there is no original book or webtoon, but some cases of discrimination in the drama are known to have been extracted from a notebook written by Lawyer Cho.

As a result, lawyer Cho Woo-sung’s essay, “One Joy Overcomes a Thousand Sorrows” (2022, Seo Sam-dok), which began selling at the end of last month, became a bestseller thanks to the popularity of the drama. The episode of “The Three Brothers’ Rebellion” (4th episode of “Woo Young-woo”), which angered everyone, is an excerpt from lawyer Cho’s book.

The essay was found to have sold more than 5,500 copies in three weeks only at Kyobo Bookstore, Yes24 and Aladdin online bookstores. In addition, the book “Why I Defend Them” (2016; Hankyoreh Publishing), which contains the case log of lawyer Shin Min-young, and lawyer Shin Joo-young’s “Master of the Court” (2020, Sol), which paid attention to the stories of all parties in the case, also saw a surge in sales.

Woo Young-woo was offered a drama remake in the U.S. and topped the TV drama rankings released by Good Data Corporation for two consecutive weeks.

According to Nielsen Korea, a ratings research company, “Woo Young-woo” recorded 0.9% in the first episode and 9.6% in the sixth episode.
