TVing’s original series “Island” will air in the second half of 2022.
TVing’s new original series “Island” (written by Oh Bo-hyun/ directed by Bae Jong/ provided by TVing/ produced by YLab & Studio Dragon & Gil Story Ent) will be released in December and is expected to increase the status of K-content once again through Amazon Prime Video.
“Island” is a fantasy action drama based on a webtoon of the same name by Yoon In-wan and Yang Kyung-il. It depicts the journey of the characters whose destiny is to fight against evil that is trying to destroy the world. “Island”, which will be reborn as a series on TVing, will interpret the legend and tales of the beautiful island ‘Jeju’ in a modern way based on the new story that the viewers have never seen before. Above all, director Bae Jong, who has been recognized for his outstanding and delicate directing skills with humanism and actions in various movies, such as “Welcome to Dongmakgol” and “Fabricated City”, is raising fans’ anticipation for more fun as well as dense immersion as he took the megaphone of “Island”.
In addition, the splendid cast lineup consisting of Kim Nam-gil, Lee Da-hee, Cha Eun-woo, and Sung Joon, who are expected to provide extreme catharsis, is arousing interest from not only their own fans but also general drama fans. In “Island”, veteran actor Kim Nam-gil, who has shown unlimited acting spectrum in both dramas and movies, plays Ban, who was raised in tragic condition to confront evil in preparation for the end of the world but could not fit in with humans. Ban, whose destiny is to protect the world, agonizes over what is worth keeping even when he abandons himself. Many people are looking forward to Kim Nam-gi’s acting to create another syndrome with his expression of this new character.
Lee Da-hee will appear as Won Mi-ho, a third-generation chaebol and a teacher. Won Mi-ho lives an unwanted self-reflection life as a temporary teacher on Jeju Island without knowing his fate. Lee Da-hee, who has perfectly melted into stories with her irreplaceable acting skills, is also raising expectations for her chemistry with Kim Nam-gil in “Island”.
Cha Eun-woo plays John, a Catholic priest. Taking on an important role in the drama as a noble character who protects life and purifies evil but has a desperate and dark past. The unique charm that Cha Eun-woo, who perfectly digested the character with colorful acting in his previous works of various genres, will give off in “Island”, is also an interesting point to watch.
Sung Joon, who left a strong impression in each drama he starred in, will transform into Gungtan, who was raised as a punishment for evil together with Ban (Kim Nam-gil), and stimulates fans’ curiosity about his performance this time.
