“The weekend drama that my mom gave up on”… “It’s Beautiful Now” has been struggling with ratings for 4 months

KBS2’s weekend drama “It’s Beautiful Now” is struggling day after day, accepting the performance that falls short of its predecessor “Young Lady and Gentleman”.

It’s Beautiful Now” depicts the reality of the current generation that are reluctant to get married and have a family. It started on April 2nd.

The drama, which took its first step with a rating of 24.5% (Nielsen Korea’s national standard), has been standing still for 4 months. Episode 38, which aired on August 7th, recorded 27.4%. Other episodes showed a similar trend, rising and falling in the early to mid-20% range.

Analyzing positively, the audience of this work is fixed. This means that viewers are watching steadily without any major departures. However, from a negative perspective, there has been no influx of new viewers throughout the past 4 months. Considering that it is a KBS weekend drama that guarantees a certain viewership rating, it is even more difficult to be optimistic.

Above all, it seems that “It’s Beautiful Now” has yet to escape the shadow of “Young Lady and Gentleman“. “Young Lady and Gentleman” recorded 36.8% in the final episode. The leading actor Ji Hyun-woo won the grand prize at the KBS Drama Awards last year. There were criticisms of the anachronistic setting during the whole work, but it was still loved for its exciting development.

Young lady and gentleman

“Young Lady and Gentleman” started with a rating of 22.7%, which is lower than “It’s Beautiful Now”, but it was on the rise due to word of mouth. As a result, it is interpreted that “It’s Beautiful Now” did not absorb the power of the previous work. For this reason, the flat and boring narration, unattractive characters as well as the lack of chemistry of main couples are mentioned.

It is easy to find bad reviews such as “The drama my mom gave up on” and “My mom changed the channel when seeing it”. These are fatal reactions to take lightly like a joke. Due to the nature of weekend dramas, the main audience is older generations. There is room for interpretation that the work failed to capture the target and did not achieve any significant results.

However, it is worth appreciating that the ratings have risen slowly although there may be fluctuations. In particular, “It’s Beautiful Now” achieved its own best record in the latest episode. There is still a possibility of a rebound as there are 12 episodes left until the end. Attention is focused on whether it will be able to surpass 30%.
