On Jan 30th (local time), information about HBO Max’s “Welcome To Derry” was updated on FTIA (Film & Television Industry Alliance), a film & television series production tracking service.

“Welcome To Derry” is a prequel drama produced by HBO Max. It follows the events in the 1960s, the time leading up to the events of the horror movie “It” released in 2017.

The movie is a remake of world-renowned thriller author Stephen King’s novel “It” and the TV series of the same name. It is a mega hit in the horror film industry as it earned 825.1 billion won worldwide, which is 20 times the production cost.

It depicts the story of what happens when “It”, which awakens every 27 years to feed on the fear of children that it kills, appears in the form of Pennywise, a clown holding a red balloon.

In the 2019 sequel, “It” was overpowered and seriously wounded by the Losers Club in 1989, forcing “It” into premature hibernation. This defeat motivates it to rebuild its strength and kill the Losers once they return to Derry.

“Welcome To Derry” depicts the time when children began to disappear at the hands of a murderous clown named Pennywise in the 1960s, before the Losers Club was formed.

It will contain how Pennywise was born and appeared in the village, and how the story is connected with the 2017 work “It”.

The exact release date has not been announced, but according to FTIA’s information, filming will begin in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on April 3rd.

Actor Bill Skarsgård is expected to play Pennywise, but no official announcement has been made yet.

Despite his role as a franchise producer, original author Stephen King is known to be not involved in the prequel drama series.

He said that he is interested in the story directed by director Andy Muschietti through “Welcome To Derry”.

With the news of the production of It’s prequel drama “Welcome To Derry”, movie fans are paying attention to which actors will be cast this time.
