A press conference was held in November 2022 to exposed the former CEO of Spire Entertainment, Kang, for verbally abusing the members of its boygroup OMEGA X. OMEGA X has applied for a total of two injunctions, one to suspend the validity of its exclusive contract, one to have videos of YouTuber In Ji-woong (who was accused of defaming the members) to be deleted and banned.
In two decisions, the court admitted that Spire Entertainment CEO Kang had verbally abused and forcefully harassed Omega X members, and this judgment also affected the court’s decision. The court cited all applications for injunction to suspend the validity of the group’s exclusive contract in January last year.
“Spire Entertainment executives have repeatedly mentioned the suspension of Omega X’s activities or disbandment of the group, which was used as a means to threaten the members, and it is believed that it may have damaged their trust,” the court said.
The application for provisional injunction was ended when the court accepted Omega X’s claim in January last year, and Omega X and Spire Entertainment terminated their exclusive contracts in May of that year under mutual consultation.
Currently, Spire Entertainment has been claiming that OmegaX’s claim is false. Spire Entertainment issued a statement on January 5th, saying, “We filed a complaint against lawyers who spread false articles and information about CEO Kang even on public broadcasting in May last year for defamation,” adding, “It has been confirmed that they are still not responding to attendance and statements.”
This is the first time Spire Entertainment said it has sued Omega X’s legal representative.
In this regard, Roh Jong-eon, a lawyer representing Omega X, said, “We filed a complaint in September last year, but eight months later, we have never received an attendance order or complaint from the police.”
“The OmegaX issue is one of the tragic events that show how greedy adults violate young people’s dreams in this society,” he said. “I hope they can overcome their wounds and realize their dreams without being hurt by adults once again.”
