Celebrities Declare “Paid with My Own Money” Amidst Controversy Over Bruno Mars Seoul Concert Favoritism
Amidst the controversy over celebrity favoritism surrounding Bruno Mars’ concert in Korea, stars like Song Hye Kyo and GOT7’s Youngjae have clarified the misunderstanding.
On June 17th-18th, Bruno Mars’ concert took place at the Seoul Olympic Stadium in Jamsil. The news of Bruno Mars’ first visit to Korea in 9 years since 2014 attracted a whopping 101,000 spectators.
Top stars such as BTS’s RM and V, BLACKPINK’s Jennie and Rosé, G-Dragon, Song Hye Kyo, Han Ga In and Yeon Jung Hoon, Sunmi, and more attended the concert.
However, controversy arose over the excessive issuance of invitation tickets for celebrities and the fact that these celebrities had seats close to the stage, which led to allegations of special treatment.
Even a fan who claimed to have personally bought a ticket for 61,600 won complained that the view was completely obstructed by a wall and that they couldn’t see the stage at all, requesting a refund.
The seat in question was beyond the restricted view seats, with no view of Bruno Mars or even the big screens.
Amidst the controversy, some celebrities have confirmed they booked their tickets with their own money.
GOT7’s Youngjae took to a fan communication platform on June 19th and personally explained, “Just in case, I bought a ticket myself. It cost 162,000 won, including delivery and fees!!“ He also provided proof of the ticket he had personally bought and added, “I held onto it tightly because I was afraid I might lose it,” directly dispelling any potential misunderstandings.
Song Hye Kyo was also revealed to have personally purchased her ticket. The ticket photo shared by Ki Eun Se showed Song Hye Kyo’s name and a record of purchasing six tickets.
The concert organizer also stated, “We do not separately invite celebrities.” Regarding the fan who purchased the “wall view” seats, the organizer said, “We will contact the customer directly and arrange a refund.” Later, the fan confirmed that they received a refund.
