Shocking Reality Unveiled: Korean Female Stars are the Main Focus of Deepfake Pornography

A recent study has brought to light concerning findings regarding the prevalence of Korean actresses and singers in deepfake content.

In today’s era, with the increasing integration of AI into society, the emergence of deepfake media poses a significant risk. Deepfake technology, the digital alteration of a person’s face or body in videos to make them appear as someone else, is predominantly associated with malicious intent or the dissemination of false information.

The vast majority of content generated through this means is pornographic, as indicated by a 2023 report from Home Security Heroes. Shockingly, 98% of deepfake videos fall under the category of pornography, with a total of 95,820 such videos online in 2023. Alarmingly, 99% of these pornographic deepfakes target women.

Of particular concern are the demographics pertaining to Korean women, particularly female celebrities. A staggering 53% of individuals targeted in deepfake pornography are Korean actresses and singers, making them the most heavily targeted group in terms of nationality and gender.

According to the study, the second most targeted nationality is American at 20%, followed by Japan at 10%. This indicates that Korean women face more than double the risk compared to the next most vulnerable group.

Furthermore, 94% of individuals featured in deepfake pornography, regardless of nationality, belong to the entertainment industry as singers, actresses, or influencers.

The report identifies the top ten individuals most frequently targeted by deepfake pornography. Remarkably, eight out of these ten individuals are Korean singers.

The study also reveals alarming facts, such as the astonishingly short time and negligible cost required to create a minute-long deepfake pornographic video from a single, clear face image (less than 25 minutes and no cost).

The combined video views across the top ten dedicated deepfake porn sites exceeded 303 million in 2023, underscoring the widespread consumption of such content despite the ethical, moral, and legal dilemmas associated with it.
