2023 MTV EMAs with Jungkook’s Scheduled Appearance Officially Canceled

BTS’s Jungkook was scheduled to perform at the 2023 MTV EMA next month but the event has been abruptly canceled

MTV EMAs (MTV Europe Music Awards) announced on October 19th (local time) that they had decided not to proceed with the 2023 MTV EMA due to the volatility of global events.

The organizers explained this decision as being made with great care for the thousands of staff, artists, fans, and partners who travel from all over the world for the show.

They mentioned that MTV EMA is an annual global music festival but, in light of ongoing Israel and Gaza conflict, it doesn’t feel appropriate to host a global celebration at this time. They added that amidst the loss of thousands of lives, it’s a time for mourning.

However, the organizers mentioned that online fan voting for award winners is still ongoing, and the artists selected in various categories will receive their awards from MTV EMA.

BTS’s Jungkook was one of the performers included among those announced by MTV EMA on October 17th. The award show was originally scheduled to take place in Paris, France on November 5th. Jungkook was nominated in three categories for this event with his hit song ‘Seven’ in English, including ‘Best Song,’ ‘Best K-pop,’ and ‘Biggest Fans.’ This is the highest number of nominations ever received by a solo Korean artist.

Besides Jungkook, other prominent pop stars such as Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Miley Cyrus, Dua Lipa, and Nicki Minaj were also nominated in major categories.
