News related to IU’s lawsuit against malicious commentor reported, “The crime was repeated even when the investigation was underway”

The netizen who repeatedly wrote malicious comments toward IU has been fined.

On December 13th, EDAM Entertainment said, “We collected evidence of the person who repeatedly made malicious posts, such as false information, defamation, and personal attacks, toward IU on various communities, including DC Inside, since last year, and filed a complaint through our law firm”

The agency continued, “Even when the investigation was underway, the perpetrator repeated their insults and malicious behaviors. Therefore, our company collected all the posts and submitted additional data to the investigative agency”.

EDAM said, “The perpetrator admitted to all the charges after being summoned for questioning, and was fined 3 million won for slandering and violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communication Network Utilization and Information Protection (Defamation).

They added, “If the same crime reoccurs after this sentence ruling, we will continue to take the strongest legal action without mercy”.

Lastly, the agency said, “In addition, we plan to take strict measures to make sure that those who take advantage of the fact that you can anonymously write on the bulletin boards of online communities and commit malicious acts against our artists will be subject to strong legal punishment”, adding “We want to make it clear that there will be no agreement or leniency in this process”.

Earlier in June, EDAM Entertainment sued one netizen for habitually making malicious posts about IU. The agency said, “Judging that the perpetrator had repeated the crime for a considerable period of time, the court judged decided to sentence the perpetrator to 8 months in prison with 2 years of probation, 180 hours of community service and 40 hours of sexual violence treatment lectures on charges of slandering and defamation.”

IU also expressed her firm stance regarding malicious comments. In a past interview, she said, “Even in their letter of apology, the netizen who spread malicious rumors about me says things like, ‘I’m going to face a divorce because of the issue related to IU’”, adding “I was so confused to the point that I thought I was the perpetrator. I will still punish you”.
