Kim Eun Sook, the screenwriter of Netflix’s “The Glory”, discussed her thinking process for the unavoidable love line in the series.
On January 6th, a video titled “[The Glory] Commentary & Reaction” was published on the official YouTube channel of Netflix Korea.
In the video, director Ahn Gil Ho, writer Kim Eun Sook, Song Hye Kyo, Lim Ji Yeon, Lee Do Hyun, Lim Ji Yeon, and Yum Hye Ran gathered in one place to watch “The Glory” together and share the behind-the-scenes anecdotes.
Here, Lee Do Hyun, who will become “the executioner who’ll wield the knife” for Song Hye Kyo rather than be her prince charming, was praised as “handsome” by writer Kim Eun Sook.
When Moon Dong Eun (Song Hye Kyo) bursted into laughter at Ju Yeo Jeong (Lee Do Hyun)’s confession, Lee Do Hyun showed a sad expression, saying, “She scoffed at me.” In response, Song Hye Kyo said, “No, that was a real laugh, she was really happy.”
Then, when the production team asked if Yeo Jeong was rejected by Dong Eun, Lee Do Hyun hurriedly replied, “But she didn’t reject me”, making everyone laugh. Then everyone insisted that Dong Eun’s response was rejection, while Lee Do Hyun believed otherwise. At this, Yum Hye Ran commented that Lee Do Hyun isn’t quick at picking up on things while laughing.
On the other hand, Lee Do Hyun said he was worried that he was filming a different genre alone.
“When we were filming early on, I asked Director An, ‘We’re filming THE GLORY, right?’ Because the scenes shot the day before and the day before that, all had beating, cursing, bleeding, and even extra-marital affairs. We were filming things like that. But the scenes that Hye Kyo and I shot were very sweet,” he confessed, adding, “I felt like I was filming a romance genre by myself.”
In response, writer Kim Eun Sook said, “If Director An didn’t stop us, episode four would have ended with a kiss scene. It’s a cardinal rule. But thanks to that I think we ended up with the coolest couple”.
