Korean netizens list out the TOP 5 super boy groups of all time (some want to exclude EXO)

The list of TOP 5 biggest boygroups of all time is attracting many opinions from Korean netizens.

Recently, a post titled “TOP 5 super boygroups” has been receiving a lot of attention from Korean netizens on the popular Korean online forum Pann. The post lists out 5 boygroups of different KPOP generations, claiming that these are the best groups in the KPOP history.

The 5 groups listed are as follows:

H.O.T is considered the first KPOP idol group and is among those that started the KPOP wave in Asia. Created by SM in 1996, the group has numerous hits and have sold over 6.4 million records in Korea alone. H.O.T disbanded in 2001, leading to hundreds of fans’ protests against the company. Kangta, H.O.T’s visual, is still considered one of the most handsome male idols in the history of KPOP.

DBSK (TVXQ) is also a legendary SM boygroup to be listed. The group debuted with 5 members U-Know Yunho, Max Changmin, Hero Jaejoong, Micky Yoochun, and Xiah Junsu in 2003 and immediately rose to the top with their hit songs such as Hug and Mirotic. The group is also considered the most popular KPOP group in Japan of all time. In 2009, the three members Jaejoong, Yoochun and Junsu left the group and formed another group called J.Y.J, leaving fans heart broken.

This 2nd generation group is said to have paved the way for YG Entertainment to enter BIG3. BigBang might not have the best visuals in the industry, but their unique style, live-singing ability, witty variety skills and self-written songs are what set them apart from other groups. G-Dragon, the leader of BigBang, is considered the fashion icon and a trend setter of Asia.

EXO debuted with 12 members in 2012 and was divided into two units EXO-K and EXO-M to work in both Korea and China. The groups have had big success with its hit songs including Wolf, Growl, Monster, etc. EXO’s fandom, the EXO-Ls, is one of the biggest and richest fandoms in KPOP with a lot of large scale projects to support their idols. Unfortunately, the three Chinese members Kris, Luhan, Tao have left the group because of their conflict with SM.

Undoubtedly, BTS is now the most popular KPOP group in the world at the moment. They have broken many records of KPOP and are the best-selling artists in South Korean history with over 20 million albums sold on the Gaon Music Chart. Besides their domestic and international awards, BTS members are also the youngest to ever receive the Order of Cultural Merit from the President of South Korea.

The post on Pann has currently received 88,049 views, 667 agrees and 57 disagrees. Comments are also flooding in. Even though some netizens suggested excluding EXO, most of the comments agree with the above list.

[+392, -242] Why would anyone suggest cutting EXO while they were the one to start the third generation? If they hadn’t opened the third generation with Growl, there would be no KPOP section on Pann now.

[+354, -178] Who are you cutting out here? It’s true that EXO started the third generation ㅋㅋㅋ They are true to their name to have stayed at the top until 2017.

[+209, -335] Are EXO worthy of that spot? Where are Seo Taeji and the boys and GOD?

[+174, -8] Ones who want to erase EXO and DBSK out of this list clearly haven’t lived through that time.

So do you agree with this list?
