Let’s take a look at some of the hottest works of Kim Seon-ho, who debuted in the 2017 drama “Chief Kim” and has become the center of attention with his recent work “Hometown Chachacha.”

Kim Seon-ho became a hot topic with “Hometown Chachacha,” gaining popularity with an unrivaled ability to pull off any character.”

Actor Kim Seon-ho‘s popularity is unimaginable these days. He succeeded in gaining huge popularity by playing the role of Chief Hong (Hong Du-sik) in tvN’s Saturday-Sunday drama “Hometown Chachacha,” and is on par with famous male actors as he has become a top star on trend.

After debuting with the play “New Boeing Boeing” in 2009, Kim Seon-ho made his drama debut with KBS2’s “Chief Kim” in 2017. Since then, the actor made his name known to the public through “Strongest Deliveryman,” “Two Cops,” and “100 Days My Prince.” He won the Best New Actor Award and the Excellence Award at the MBC Drama Awards for “Two Cops.” Since then, he has starred in his first mini-series, JTBC’s “Welcome to Waikiki 2,” and his popularity has risen greatly with “Catch the Ghost” and “Start-up.” In particular, he received much love from fans and won the title ultimate second male lead in “Start-up”.

Kim Seon-ho became even more popular with his role in “Hometown Chachacha.” The actor perfectly portraited the character of Chief Hong, who seemed indifferent on the outside but had affectionate and delicate consideration on the inside, in his own color, and excited female fans with his honey-dropping romance chemistry with Shin Min-ah. As he ranks at the top every week in terms of popularity of the cast, it can be said that it is not the actor that benefits from the drama, but the other way around.

Kim Seon-ho’s popularity is not only due to his handsome visuals but also his fatal charm and acting ability to make all characters his own, from a third generation chaebol to a fraud or a cold city boy. Let’s take a look at the 4-year history of Kim Seon-ho’s drama acting, which might make you join his fandom.

 “The Strongest Delivery Man” (2017)

“The Strongest Deliveryman” is a work that contains the love and success of Korean poor people, also called soil spoons, centering on the two main characters who are jajangmyeon delivery workers. Kim Sun-ho played the third generation chaebol Oh Jin-kyu, causing the second male lead syndrome since the beginning. Oh Jin-kyu grew up under his father who ignores him and is immature and full of wounds, and Kim Sun-ho maximized the character’s charm of a cute and lovely man that evokes a protective instinct from fans despite being salty.

In the middle of the drama, he turns into a person who abandons his pride and cares for others, and has a love line with Ji-yoon (played by Ko Won-hee), which played a role in balancing the drama’s comedy in the narrative. Compared to Kang Soo (played by Ko Kyung-pyo), the male protagonist of the drama, who is rather too nice and drawn as a flat character, Jin-kyu shows a more three-dimensional performance, making him more attractive.

However, it is regrettable that his screen time is significantly reduced from the middle of the drama due to the narrative that is biased toward male and female protagonists.

Welcome to Waikiki 2 (2019)

“Welcome to Waikiki 2” tells the story of young people who gather again in the guest house ‘Waikiki’ and face the challenges of friendship, love, and dream together. At Waikiki guest house, which is still on the verge of collapse, the unprepared young people will find ways to achieve their goals and go through tough survivals.

Kim Seon-ho plays Cha Woo-sik, an aspiring student singer from “Unknown Idol”. The drama unfolds the heart-throbbing melodrama yet a comedy that will make you laugh hard between Cha Woo-sik and his first love, Su-yeon (Moon Ga-young), who he meets again after 10 years.

The way he acted the crying scene in front of his affectionate crush was just too heart-breaking.

Apart from romance, the bromance chemistry between Woo-sik, Joon-ki (Lee Yi-kyung), and Ki-bong (Shin Hyun-soo) is also a good point that attracts audiences. It’s good to smile without any burden while watching a film that is more like a sitcom than a drama.

Start Up (2020)

“Start Up” is a film that tells about the START and UP of young people who entered the Silicon Valley in Korea dreaming about successful startups. Kim Seon-ho plays the top team leader of SH Venture Capital, Han Ji-pyeong, who is called the Gorden Ramsay in the investment world. It is not exaggerated to say “Start Up” is Kim Seon-ho’s drama.

Although he was the second male lead, his appearance received more reactions than the main characters Nam Do-san (Nam Joo-hyuk) and Seo Dal-mi (Suzy). Han Ji-pyeong’s past story took over the whole screentime from the first episode. Along with his sad past, the backstory of “Mr. Long Legs”, who likes to complain but does everything to help the juniors, also drew more attention of viewers to Han Hi-pyeong.

Kim Seon-ho’s acting was also well-received. From 620,000 followers before the first broadcast, the number of his Instagram followers surpassed 3 million in two months.

Although “Start Up” was not a hit drama as its ratings were only around 5%, this drama has made Kim Seon-ho a rising star. Therefore, he is the actor who benefited the most from “Start Up”.
