5 dramas that caused the greatest regret for ending early or being canceled mid-broadcasting

Below are the 5 dramas that the viewers regretted the most.

Several Korean dramas, such as “Snowdrop”, “Joseon Excorist”, “School 2020”, “Dear M”, etc. got involved in controversies over broadcasting content. Some were permanently canceled while the rest had to end earlier than its schedule, causing huge damages to the production team. However, this is not something that only happened recently.

In fact, there were some Korean series that got canceled due to unexpected reasons despite casting splendid A-level stars, causing great regret to the viewers. 

Wolf (2006)

Wolf” was originally planned to be a 16-episode drama that tells about the tragic romance of 3 main characters, Bae Dal Chul (Eric Mun), Han Ji Soo (Han Ji Min), and Yoon Sung Mo (Uhm Tae Woong). This drama followed the classic motif of a love story in which two men compete with each other to win the heart of one woman.

After airing 3 episodes, the production of “Wolf” was temporarily suspended because the two male leads were injured during the filming.

The production team decided to wait for the recovery of the lead actors to continue the filming. However, more problems occurred due to the long production halt. In the end, the drama was canceled in the middle of its broadcasting, causing deep regret for the viewers.

A Beautiful Mind (2016)

The story of “A Beautiful Mind” was inspired by Mary Shelley’s novel “Frankenstein”. This drama tells about Lee Young Oh (Jang Hyuk), a skillful neurosurgeon who is unable to feel empathy. One day, Young Oh suddenly gets involved in a mysterious case that happened at his hospital.

Like all other Korean dramas, “A Beautiful Mind” was also set to air 16 episodes. However, due to poor ratings, the number of episodes was cut down to 14. The highest rating peak that this drama recorded was 4.7% for episode 3. Its viewership continued to decrease until reaching 2.8% in the final episode.

Four Sons (2018)

Four Sons” was the drama that struggled the most in 2018. It was a highly-anticipated work starring Park Hae Jin but got canceled after filming only a few scenes. “Four Sons” is a thriller-horror drama that tells about a man trying to discover the secrets of his mother’s death.

In the middle of the filming, Park Hae Jin’s agency and the production company Victory Contents had a conflict about the production process. Park Hae Jin’s agency even filed a lawsuit against the production company and won. As a result, the drama was canceled.

Moreover, the female lead of “Four Sons” Nana was also negatively affected by the late filming. Nana then decided to withdraw from the project, and Lee Si Ah was cast to replace her.

The production team tried to make some changes to the process of filming after encountering many problems. Unfortunately, the project couldn’t process as scheduled because no broadcaster agreed to air this drama.

Prometheus (2018)

This is a project that has received a lot of attention since its publication because of its fascinating content when it tells the story of NIS agents who set out to search for missing North Korean scientists.  However, the drama got into big trouble and was not broadcast because the main cast of the drama unexpectedly withdrew from the project.

Initially, the drama was expected to star Ha Ji Won, Jin Goo, and Park Ki Woong, but after a delay, all three actors later announced their withdrawal from the project before starting filming.  MBC at that time tried to organize other auditions for replacement actors, but because it couldn’t find suitable candidates, the station eventually decided to cancel the project.

A Piece Of Your Mind (2020)

Like “A Beautiful Mind”, “A Piece of Your Mind” is also shortened by 4 episodes and only 12 episodes out of a total of 16 due to unfavorable ratings. Initially when the cast was revealed, this drama piqued the public’s interest but when it was officially aired, “A Piece of Your Min”  struggled with the viewership ratio, which is a pity.

This is a gentle melodrama that tells the love story between Moon Ha-won (Jung Hae-In) and Han Seo-woo (Chae Soo-Bin).  This drama recorded the lowest rating of 1,050% for episode 11.

All of the above dramas are projects that initially attracted attention but unfortunately failed to meet the public’s expectations.  In addition to the problem of the unattractive script, many films also struggled right from the production stage.  Hopefully, in the future movie producers will be more careful in the production process so that all their works are broadcast as planned.
