Why (G)-IDLE’s future in the K-Pop scene is worth worrying about
2021 was a dark year for (G)-IDLE after Soojin got into a bullying scandal that resulted in her leaving the group. At the same time, other members are having their own successful solo careers.
Ever since their last comeback in November last year with the 4th mini-album “I Burn” and the title track “HWAA”, (G)-IDLE still shows no sign of coming back to the music scene. Fans are very confused at this questioning group schedule.
Soojin left the group due to her scandal
In March 2021, Soojin got into a school violence scandal. Specifically, a former schoolmate of Soojin – (G)-IDLE’s main dancer – accused her of bullying and isolating which caused the victim to be mentally distressed. Soojin was also accused of stealing other people’s stuff.
Soojin and CUBE Entertainment immediately responded to the claim. However, until now, the result of the scandal is still unknown. Due to public pressure, on Aug 14th, Soojin officially left the group. Soojin’s departure makes many worried about the future of (G)-IDLE as she was a well-known fan’s favorite.
Miyeon pursues her acting career
After Soojin left, the remaining members start to go for their solo careers. The most noticeable one must be Miyeon, the team’s main vocal who is pursuing her acting career by participating in dramas such as “Replay: the Moment” and “Adult Trainee”. Her acting skill seems to be quite welcomed by the public.
Aside from that, Miyeon is also challenging herself as a show host. She’s currently the host for Mnet’s weekly music show “M!Countdown”.
Yuqi thrives individually in China
While (G)-IDLE is struggling in Korea, Yuqi is busy in her hometown. Yuqi quickly found a place in Chinese showbiz after returning to China to work on her first solo album, “A Page”. She became the name of some entertainment programs, including “Keep Running”, “Happy Camp”, and “Stage Boom”… Yuqi has also collaborated with many well-known artists.
In 8 months of solo activities, Yuqi was welcomed by many magazines as the cover face. She also became the ambassador of many brands such as Limeflaire, Momenten, Ray-Ban.
Can Soyeon go solo?
Soyeon is the most talented member of (G)-IDLE. She can rap well, sing well and dance well. Not only that, Soyeon also possesses a talent for composing and writing music. Most of the group’s songs have her participation in composing. Soyeon is so outstanding that there was a time when (G)-IDLE was called “Soyeon and friends” by netizens.
In 2021, Soyeon is also very active in solo activities. Currently, she is serving as a mentor of the survival program My Teenage Girl organized by MBC, alongside many famous artists such as Yuri (SNSD), Ock Joohyun and Aiki.
Minnie and Shuhua, the other two members of (G)-IDLE, have enough “resources” for solo activities as well. Both have a reputation comparable to many well-known artists in their hometown. Furthermore, CUBE’s inefficient method of operation casts doubt on the long-term viability of (G)-IDLE.
