“What Grammy? We only know Scammy,” ARMY is angry after BTS failed to take home the Grammy award

BTS, who has been on the Grammy stage for the second consecutive year, failed to lift the trophy they had been looking forward to. ARMY around the world is fiercely criticizing the Grammy for “fraud”.

BTS attended the 64th Grammy Awards held at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on the afternoon of April 3rd (local time). For the second consecutive year, they proudly performed as one of the performers and candidates for the “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” category.

Those who were nominated in the same category with BTS are Tony Bennett – Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber – Benny Blanco, Coldplay, and Doja Cat – SZA. Avril Lavigne, who appeared as the presenter of this category, shouted “Kiss Me More” by Doja Cat as the winner. The members left their regrets behind and generously applauded for the winner on stage.

Bae Chul-soo, who was in charge of the live broadcast on Mnet, was also angry. He said, “BTS didn’t win the award again this time. As a Korean, I feel sorry for him. But as a person who has been broadcasting the Grammy Awards for a long time, I feel like I need to apologize instead. Still, BTS has achieved many things regardless of whether they win that award or not.”

In particular, Bae Chul-soo said just before the award ceremony, “The Grammy’s seems to be using BTS well to promote themselves. If so, shouldn’t they somehow give BTS an award? I’m expecting BTS’s first Grammy award.”

Shortly after the awards ceremony, “Scammy” emerged as a trending word online. It is a word that combines “scam” and “Grammy”, and was coined to protest against Grammy since BTS failed to win an award. ARMYs around the world used the word “Scammys” to criticize Grammy’s conservatism for turning a blind eye to Asian music.

Fans poured out criticism through Twitter, such as “Don’t take advantage of BTS’s influence. Don’t make ARMYs waste their time because BTS couldn’t win a Scammy award”, “BTS came to Las Vegas, not because of the Grammy, but for their stadium concert. The Grammy needs BTS”, etc.

Although the wall of a Grammy win was so high, the U.S is already fascinated by BTS’s charms. BTS’s concert “BTS PERMISSION TO DANCE ON STAGE – LAS VEGAS” will be held at the Alligator Stadium in Las Vegas on the 8th, 9th, 15th and 16th of this month, and all four shows were already sold out. BTS and ARMYs will burn their disappointment of not winning the Grammy at the concert hall.
