Top 16 most favorite K-dramas of 2021: Hospital Playlist in 1st place, followed by Hometown Cha Cha Cha

The Korean entertainment and media industry recently voted for the best K-dramas of 2021.  

To celebrate its 17th anniversary, Joy News 24 – a prestigious entertainment – business magazine – has arranged a survey about 2021’s best dramas, movies, actors, singers and variety shows. 200 personnels, including agencies’ staff, broadcasting stations’ staff, content producers, entertainment journalists, have taken part in the survey. The results is finally out, and below are the chosen best K-dramas of the year:

Hospital Playlist 2” received 35 votes in total, leading the survey to become the best drama of 2021. This show is about the work and life of 5 talented doctors who have been bestfriends since college.

2. Hometown Cha Cha Cha

Even though the male lead Kim Seon-ho is currently in a scandal regarding his ex-girlfriend, “Hometown Cha Cha Cha” is barely affected. With an adorable and healing storyline about the people of the sea village Gongjin, “Hometown Cha Cha Cha” has received 27 votes, finishing in 2nd place.

3. Vincenzo

Coming in 3rd with 22 votes, “Vincenzo” tells the story of an Italian lawyer and mafia consigliere who comes to Korea after a gang betrayal and on a mission to get back at his enemies, the drama’s villains. At the beginning of its broadcast, “Vincenzo” was not much received by the audience, but thanks to its unique humor of the black comedy genre and the cast’s charming performances, captivating chemistry between Song Joong Ki and Jeon Yeo Bin, “Vincenzo” later became a huge success.

4. Beyond Evil

Following Vincenzo with 21 votes is jTBC’s “Beyond Evil”, a psychological thriller about two policemen. The gripping storyline, well-established characters, impressive acting and how the psychology of the victim – the serial killer is excellently portrayed by the director have helped “Beyond Evil” be considered a flawless masterpiece of Korean TV.

5. Racket Boys

Another healing drama that made the cut with 20 votes is “Racket Boys”. The drama depicts a story of male students who dream of becoming idols in the world of badminton, along with the lives of 16 teenagers growing up in a peaceful countryside. Although “Racket Boys” only earned an average rating of about 5-6%, it is still considered a fun, feel good, heartwarming drama by screenwriter Jeong Bo Hoon.
