Fans are excited as Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin’s wedding day is near.

41-year-old actors Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin are about to tie the knot at the end of March. Both have drew great attention from their dating to marriage announcement, but before that, they are also actors who have been steadily building their filmography since their debut and have been active as reliable actors.

Let’s take a look back on the past and present of Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin, a lovely couple who are similar in appearance, acting skills, and debut date.

Even before her debut, Son Ye-jin couldn’t hide her beauty. She was introduced as a pure princess in the street fashionista section of a fashion magazine. Her young, fresh face catches everyone’s eye. She also appeared on entertainment programs. In 1998, son appeared as a fan of composer Joo Young-hoon on KBS’ Star Date, leaving a deep impression with her lively charm.

Hyun Bin, who has shown his appearance which was already at the standard of a handsome sculpture since childhood, made his debut in the drama “Bodyguard” in 2003. Son Ye-jin made a splendid debut in 2001 by starring in her first drama “Delicious Proposal” after starring in the movie “Secret” (2000). It is a drama that vividly depicts the stories of young people who are passionate about cooking, starring So Ji-seop, Jung Joon, So Yoo-jin, and Kwon Sang-woo. Her debut film was a huge success, which helped make her face and name well known to the public.

In the same year, Son established herself as the next-generation star through “Sunhee and Jinhee.” She played the role of Seon-hee, who is bright, innocent and dreams of pure love, alongside Kim Gyu-ri, who played the role of Jin-hee, drawing the composition of good and evil. Son Ye-jin also began to build her filmography on the silver screen. In 2002,  she worked with Ahn Sung-ki, Yoo Ho-jung, and Kim Yeo-jin in director Lim Kwon-taek‘s “Chihwaseon,” which depicts the biography of Jang Seung-up, a genius painter in the late Joseon Dynasty.

She also participated in the youth melodrama “Lover’s Concerto” with Cha Tae-hyun and Lee Eun-joo which depicts a love story of young people that becomes even more melancholic because it cannot be achieved.

In the movie “The Classic” (2003), which was called the “Standard of Korean Romance,” Son Ye-jin showed off her pure image and innocent appearance.

The movie portrayed a parallel story of Joo-hee in the past, who was a high school girl and was loved by a male student named Jun-ha (Cho Seung-woo), and Ji-hye of the present time, who is a female college student having a crush on Sang-min (Cho In-sung), a senior in the theater club. Son won the “Rookie of the Year” Award, the “Female Popularity Award”, and the “Rookie of the Year” Award in the movie category at the Baeksang Arts Awards thanks to this movie.

She also became the main character of a story about one’s first love in the movie “First Love Rally” (2003) released in the same year. In this work, which depicts the pure love of a man who never gives up his first love, she reunited with Cha Tae-hyun and appeared as his lover. The movie attracted 2.3 million audiences, while she was loved and adored for her fresh and pure appearance.

Hyun Bin became a top star through the drama “My Name is Kim Sam-soon”, which caused a syndrome in Korea and recorded a rating of more than 50% in 2005.

Hyun Bin played the role of Hyun Jin-heon, a bad boy, and made not only Sam-soon (Kim Sun-ah) but also women’s hearts flutter.

After gaining explosive popularity with “My Name is Kim Sam-soon,” he continued his active moves with the movie “A Millionaire’s First Love” and the drama “The Snow Queen” in 2006.

In 2008, in “Worlds Within,” he was given the role of a sharp, just, humane, and warm director Jung Ji-oh and worked with Song Hye-kyo. 

The following year, in the drama “Friends, Our Legend” in 2009, he sincerely portrayed the wounds of his character which was caused by his father, the pain from his mother leaving his family, and the unfortunate situation in which he could not fulfill his dream.

Many people still remember Son Ye-jin‘s refreshing Pocari Sweat commercial. The melody of “Nananana” alone reminded everyone of Son Ye-jin surrounded by the advertising effect.

In 2002, she turned into Choi Dong-hee, the daughter of a merchant in Gaesong, and transformed into a woman crossdressing as an intelligent  male owner with a big distribution. She can’t hide her beauty even when she dressed up as a man.

The romantic melodrama in 2003 with Song Seung-heon is considered Son Ye-jin‘s golden age.

Son Ye-jin, who has emerged as an epitome of innocence, establishes herself as a melodramatic queen through the movie “A Moment To Remember” (2004). She became a woman who gradually lost her memory due to Alzheimer’s disease and shows a sad emotional performance with Jung Woo-sung.

In the 2005 movie “April Snow”, she broke away from her innocent image and showcased a passionate performance with Bae Yong-joon. It is a work that deals with an unconventional yet lyrical story of seeing their spouses falling in love with each other. She acted so maturely that no one can believe she was only 24 years old.

In “The Art of Seduction”, she doubled the fun with her attractive and adorable acting. Son Ye-jin can be comical too.

Hyun Bin‘ has found his life work through the 2010 series “Secret Garden” with Ha Ji-won. “Is this your best? Are you sure?” was the catchphrase of his role of Kim Joo-won, president of a tough millionaire department store, and a self-proclaimed “social leader.”

He created a cold and cool-headed man but was actually a pure guy who desperately gave his life for his loved one.

Hyun Bin was also active on the silver screen. He starred in the movie “Late Autumn” by director Kim Tae-yong, who became Tang Wei‘s husband as of 2011, and collaborated with Tang Wei.

Before joining the Marine Corps, he starred with Lim Soo-jung in his last work, “Come Rain, Come Shine.”

After being discharged from the military, he chose to play the role of King Jeongjo in “The Fatal Encounter” (2014) as his return film. In 2017, he gave off a new charm as Lim Cheol-ryeong, a North Korean detective from a special elite unit in “Confidential Assignment” which attracted 7.8 million audiences to the cinema.

In “The Swindlers,” he transformed into a “fraud who only picks and deceives scammers.”

Son Ye-jin is an all-rounder actress who can pull off any genre like herself. The 2006 drama “Alone in Love,” in which she worked with Gam Woo-sung, is another lifetime work of hers.

The drama depicts the love story of a couple falling in love again after divorce, and she has perfectly expressed the inner story of a woman who got divorced after losing her child despite her young age at the time (24 years old). This role won her the “Best Actress” award at the SBS Drama Awards and the Baeksang Arts Awards.

Through the films “Open City” (2008), “My Wife Got Married” (2008), “White Night” (2009), “Spellbound” (2011), dramas “Spotlight” (2008), “Personal Taste” (2010), “Don’t Look Back: The Legend of Orpheus” (2013) and “The Tower” (2012), she has built a career that outstandingly stood out among actors of her age. 

Son Ye-jin showed off her provocative charm by playing the role of a master who pursues free love in “My Wife Got Married.” She won the “Best Actress Award” at the Blue Dragon Film Awards and the Baeksang Arts Awards thanks to this role.

In the movie “The Pirates” (2014), which attracted 8.6 million people to the cinema, she played the role of Yeo-wol, a great pirate who was in a woman’s body but had a strong charisma that could command the sea. This role won her the “Best Actress Award” at the Grand Bell Award.

In the drama “Hyde Jekyll, Me,” in which Hyun Bin showed his chemistry with Han Ji-min in 2015, Hyun Bin completed 2 roles himself as Koo Seo-jin, the bad guy, and Robin, the world’s best-warmhearted man.

In the 2018 drama “Memories of the Alhambra”, he played Yoo Jin-woo, a man living in reality and the game world. Through this, Hyun Bin has performed various genres such as mystery, action, and romance.

Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin met each other through the 2018 movie “Negotiation.” They played the roles of negotiator Ha Chae-yoon and hostage-taker Min Tae-gu, which were settled on the same set but different floors, and they filmed while looking at only the monitors showing each other. In the movie “The Last Princess” (2016), which is based on a true story, Son Ye-jin showed a heart-warming performance as the one-top protagonist. She proved her wider spectrum by playing the role of Princess Deokhye, the only daughter of Emperor Gojong who was forced to study in Japan at the age of 13, and the last empress of the Korean Empire.

In the movie “Be With You,” she played the main character who returned to her husband and son a year later with all her memories lost. She reunited with So Ji-seop 16 years after “Delicious Proposal,” and showed off their warm chemistry that even surpassed the original Japanese movie.

After five years, Son Ye-jin made her comeback with “Something in the Rain.” She played Yoon Jin-ah, a 35-year-old office woman who falls in love with her brother’s best friend and her best friend’s brother. She excited all K-drama lovers by her sweet and romantic collaboration with the younger actor Jung Hae-in.

When the movie “Negotiation” was released, Hyun Bin told Xsports News, “We talked a lot about meeting once in other genres such as romantic comedy and romance and not as enemy like in this movie.”

This has become a reality. In 2019, she worked together with him for the second time in the drama “Crash Landing on You” which led to a real romantic relationship.
