Few people know that thanks to a random conversation, Jennie has become one of the top rappers and also an all-rounder of Kpop 3rd generation.
On August 20, on the 11th anniversary of Jennie joining YG Entertainment and becoming a trainee, her fans spread the adorable story of how Jennie became a rapper.
Specifically, during BLACKPINK’s appearance on Zach Sang Show, Jennie was asked: “You are the rapper, right? Was rapping something that you have always done or was that new when you joined the group?
In response to this question, Jennie shared an interesting story of her journey to become the main rapper. Accordingly, when she first joined YG, there weren’t other trainees who could speak English well, Jennie was the only one who was fluent in English. This can be easily explained because she had lived and studied in New Zealand for a long time. Therefore, when asked by vocal instructors to cover pop songs, most of which have rap parts, Jennie automatically became a strong “candidate” to take on these rap parts.
She excitedly revealed, “We were frequently asked to cover pop songs, and you know they always have raps. One day, one trainer told me, ‘You can speak English pretty fast. Why don’t you try rapping?’ I was like, ‘Okay.’ Anyway, I enjoyed rapping as soon as I started doing it. I pretty much just rapped until I made my debut, but I really like singing nowadays.”
How Jennie came across rapping and started pursuing rap as a passion was very natural, without any compulsion. Therefore, on every stage of BLACKPINK, the main rapper always delivers an explosive performance and looks like she is enjoying every moment.
Moreover, during the trainee days, because Jennie also showed that she loved to sing and was trained in vocals, she also improved in terms of vocals.
