The reason why the director of “Broker” was surprised after seeing IU on the set

Director Koreeda appeared at the “Broker” open talk event held at BIFF Outdoor Square in Haeundae-gu, Busan, on Oct 8th and talked about various things.

Director Koreeda Hirokatsu shared the behind-the-scenes story of the scene where Lee Ji-eun (IU) sang a lullaby to her child in the movie “Broker.” According to director Koreeda, surprisingly, the child who was crying at the time of filming stopped crying as if he had never done so after hearing Lee Ji-eun’s lullaby.

According to Star News, he said, “At that time, there was a script reading time before filming. We read from the first scene to the end. Lee Ji-eun actually sang a lullaby, and I had thought that if she sang too well, people would think of singer IU and not actress Lee Ji-eun. IU also talked about how difficult it was for her to sing about that part,” he recalled.

“What was surprising when we did the filming was that when Lee Ji-eun started singing the lullaby, the baby stopped crying,” he said. “I thought it was amazing, and I was moved at the same time.”

IU’s lullaby, which can be seen in “Broker,” was added after director Koreeda decided to cast IU. Director Koreeda said earlier, “I think I added the scene without realizing because I wanted to hear Lee Ji-eun’s singing.”
