Rookie actor Kang Tae-joo to join the cast of Kim Seon-ho’s “Sad Tropical”

Rookie Kang Tae-joo has been selected as the main lead of director Park Hoon-jung’s “Sad Tropical”.

According to the film industry on Nov 19th, Kang Tae-joo was recently cast out of 1000 people as the main lead in the audition for “Sad Tropical“, which began in the first half of this year. “Sad Tropical” is about a boy, who was born by a Korean father and a Filipino mother. He dreams of becoming a boxer and comes to Korea to find his father. It is a new work prepared by director Park Hoon-jung after “The Witch: Part 2“.

Kim Seon-ho plans to take on the role of a nobleman, while Kang Tae-joo will play the above-mentioned boy and lead the film with Kim Seon-ho. “Sad Tropical” is the two’s debut movie.

Kang Tae-joo appeared as Kang Dae-sung, a pawnshop part-timer and idol trainee, in OCN’s drama “Missing: The Other Side”. After that, he made his face known by KBS 2TV’s drama “Hello, Me!”.

Director Park Hoon-jung discovered Kim Da-mi and Cynthia – the main leads of “The Witch: Part 1” and “The Witch: Part 2” respectively – through the audition process. It is said that he and the production team finally selected Kang Tae-joo as the main lead of “Sad Tropical” after several auditions.

Director Park Hoon-jung finalized Kang Tae-joo and Kim Seon-ho as the male protagonists of “Sad Tropical”. Go A-ra, who was considering appearing as the female protagonist early on, also decided to join the cast after much consideration. “Sad Tropical” will start filming in earnest from mid-December.
