Red carpet fashion worth over 40 million won? BLACKPINK Jennie dominates the Cannes

BLACKPINK Jennie has taken over the 76th Cannes International Film Festival with her outstanding red carpet fashion.

Jennie, who made her acting debut in the American HBO drama “The Idol”, was officially invited to the Cannes Film Festival’s non-competitive section, attending the red carpet event, after-party, and various promotional events. As a member of BLACKPINK and a solo artist, Jennie has been dominating global charts such as Billboard and the UK Official Charts, as well as embarking on the largest-scale world tour by a K-pop girl group. Due to her overwhelming popularity, there is great interest in her every move.

Jennie, who started her acting challenge under her full English name “Jennie Ruby Jane”, captivated local fans with her versatile charm.

At the same time, Jennie’s red carpet fashion was the talk of the town. As a Chanel ambassador, Jennie, known as the “Human Chanel”, chose a dress from the Chanel 2020 Spring/Summer Haute Couture collection. The dress had gained attention when it was worn by Kaia Gerber, the daughter of supermodel Cindy Crawford and an emerging teenage model. Jennie showcased an elegant mood by exposing her collarbone with a sheer black mesh design and adding lace details. She accessorized with a Chanel ribbon headband and ribbon strap high heels, opting to omit earrings and a necklace for a clean look.

The price of this outfit was also significant. The Chanel headband costs in the range of 11.7 million won (almost 9,000 USD), the three rings cost approximately 36.57 million won (almost 30,000 USD), and the Chanel shoes were priced at 1 million won (around 750 USD). Although the price of the dress is unknown, it is a haute couture item, and can be considered extremely luxurious.

At the after-party, Jennie took a 180-degree turn in the atmosphere. She transformed into a hip and provocative style by pairing a Chanel Spring/Summer 2023 vest top, a long skirt with a daring slit, and lace-up sandals.

The BLACKPINK member also demonstrated a perfect attitude for the awards ceremony. Jennie, with her bright smile and confident attitude, delighted fans by blowing a kiss to the official Cannes camera. She also warmly greeted and took photos with her colleagues from the drama, and showed her friendly side by giving cheek kisses. Foreign media and fans also praised Jennie.

American Billboard, French L’Officiel magazine, and other foreign media reported on Jennie’s Cannes debut, stating that Jennie pleased fans with just her presence and that she stood on the red carpet in “classic Hollywood style”.

It is known that fans flocked to the Lumière Grand Theatre well before the event started, calling Jennie’s name and cheering for her. After the premiere screening of “The Idol”, which revealed a two-part episode, an average of about 5 minutes of standing ovation was given.

In an interview with fashion media WWD, Jennie said, “It’s overwhelming, but I’m grateful and thankful. All of those things at the same time. Especially as it’s the first step in my acting career, I was honored to be able to come.”

The female idol also shared, “The fact that it was about the music industry fascinated me, and I thought I could bring something to the role”, adding, “It was an opportunity to just be myself and be brave. I didn’t really train for it, or prep anything. Sam (the director) wanted me to just be myself.”

On the other hand, “The Idol” will be released on June 5th through HBO.
