“Please stop it…”, PPL scene appeared in “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” again and sparked a heated debate among netizens

Since the airing of “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” episode 13, many viewers have expressed great disappointment and regret in the drama.

Multi-balm PPL once again showed up in the new broadcast of ENA’s Wednesday-Thursday drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”, which aired on August 10th. This is the second time since the first appearance of indirect advertisements in episode 11.

On the latest broadcast, Hanbada attorneys, including Jung Myung-seok (Kang Ki-young), Woo Young-woo (Park Eun-bin), Kwon Min-woo (Joo Jong-hyuk), etc., left for Jeju Island together with Dong Geu-ra-mi (Joo Hyun-young) and Kim Min-sik (Im Sung-jae).

The controversial PPL appeared in the scene where Dong Geu-ra-mi met Kwon Min-woo at the airport. Arriving at the airport later than Hanbada attorneys, Dong Geu-ra-mi turned around and searched for something in her bag as soon as her eyes met with Kwon Min-woo, whom she has a crush on.

What Dong Geu-ra-mi took out was the same multi-balm that Choi Soo-yeon used in episode 11.

The camera then focused on the scene where Dong Geu-ra-mi applied the multi-balm to her face while holding the product in a way that the logo of the product could be clearly seen on the screen for about 10 seconds. Immediately after the broadcast, netizens poured out complaints that the PPL scene once again prevented them from immersing in the story, following the last time in episode 11.

However, when the behind-the-scenes story about the multi-balm PPL was released, netizens’ reactions began to change little by little.

On August 9th, CIVIC News released an interview conducted with a manager, who was in charge of PPL sponsorship in the drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”.

According to the interview, it was very difficult for “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” to find a sponsor due to its exceptional conditions of being written by a new screenwriter and having a disabled main character. At that time, the only sponsor that willingly decided to invest in the drama was the multi-balm brand.

Upon hearing this story, netizens began to show a more friendly attitude to the drama. However, there are still negative reactions. It is because an amount of 20 billion won of production cost was reportedly spent on making the drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”.

A production cost of 20 billion won is already much higher than that of existing dramas. This amount of investment is also enough to provide an environment for the drama to be relatively free from the pressure of advertisements.

In response to this issue, netizens on the online community theqoo commented, “You can put multi-balm on the kimbap instead of sesame oil”, “Oh, I saw this brand again”, “If a drama without PPL is called a ‘clean drama’, then a drama PPL is a ‘dirty’ one? They are framing every drama”, “You did a great job”, “I want to compliment them only for today”, “They helped the drama to be produced. Cool”, etc.

On the other hand, other Internet users continued to criticize, saying “I’m tired of PPL”, “I can’t immerse in the drama anymore”, “It’s like a media manipulation”, “Are you trying to brainwash us?”, “What kind of brand is it to deserve praising?”, “But I don’t want to see PPL everywhere like this”, “They are trying to wrap up the mess”, etc.

PPL scene was seen in “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” for the first time in the 11th episode, which aired on August 3rd. “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”, which was considered a good drama without PPL, now left the viewers in deep regret.
