Perpetrator of group sexual violence? Lee Da In’s “Lovers” embroiled in serious controversy before airing
It was confirmed that a perpetrator of group sexual violence is involved in MBC's new drama "Lovers". In response, MBC announced their official position.
On May 3rd, complaints poured out at MBC’s Viewer Communication Center asking for a sexual violence perpetrator to be excluded from the drama “Lovers”.
This started when rumors spread that a perpetrator of the group sexual violence “The death of background actress sisters” in 2004 is carrying out related work in the new drama “Lovers”.
In fact, this was confirmed to be true. An MBC official said on May 4th, “Although it isn’t our direct task, it was confirmed that the perpetrator is involved in field work. We’ll immediately replace the company to which the perpetrator belongs with another company.“
“The death of background actress sisters” is a tragic incident in which a background actress made an extreme choice in 2004, after being subjected to group sexual violence by 12 people, including the head of her agency and her casting manager. At that time, the background actress also claimed that she suffered secondary damage from the police and was threatened by the perpetrators during the investigation. Afterwards, her sister, who introduced her to the job, also made an extreme choice.

In response, MBC announced their official position through the announcement of the Viewer Communication Center on May 4th.
The production team of MBC’s “Lovers” said, “We are seriously taking viewers’ concerns related to the supporting cast management company for the drama ‘Lovers’. Currently, an external professional company for supporting actors is participating in the production of ‘Lovers’. We confirmed that the controversial person has visited some filming sites.“
They emphasized, “Taking into account viewers’ opinions and concerns, MBC decided to immediately terminate the contract with the management company in order to fundamentally rule out any possible appearances, following the measure to ban the controversial person from accessing the production site.“
They added, “We will do our best to produce the drama ‘Lovers’ until the end so that it can start its first broadcast amidst interest and love from viewers. Thank you.“
Meanwhile, “Lovers” starring Nam Goong Min, Ahn Eun Jin, Lee Hak Joo and Lee Da In depicts the love of a lover thrown into the fierce battle of the Manchu War and stories of the people who raise hopes in hardships. It is scheduled to air in the second half of this year.
