NewJeans Sets Guinness World Record Previously Held by Jungkook with 1 Billion Spotify Streams

4th gen girl group NewJeans has been officially recognized by the Guinness World Records.

According to their agency ADOR on May 9th, NewJeans has achieved a total of 1 billion streams on the world’s largest music streaming service, Spotify, 219 days after their debut on March 8th of last year.

This is the shortest time period ever achieved by any K-pop artist. It is a remarkable achievement accomplished in less than a year. The previous record was held by BTS Jungkook with 409 days.

Guinness World Records said, “On March 8, 2023, NewJeans achieved 1 billion streams on Spotify in just 219 days, faster than any other K-pop artist.”

Guinness World Records emphasized that this achievement was made with just six songs on NewJeans’ discography, including “Attention,” “Hype boy,” “Cookie,” “Hurt,” “OMG,” and “Ditto.”

Guinness World Records revealed that the most played NewJeans songs on Spotify, “OMG” and “Ditto,” were neck-to-neck in streams. They also noted the streaming numbers for “Zero,” a collaboration song with Coca-Cola released on April 5th.

On May 7th, NewJeans achieved a total of 1.4 billion streams on Spotify with seven songs. “OMG,” “Ditto,” and “Hype boy” each recorded 300 million streams, “Attention” recorded 200 million streams, and “Cookie” recorded 100 million streams. Five out of the seven songs had over 100 million streams.
