Netizens criticize the Jamboree concert upon seeing NewJeans’ rehearsal photos, “Isn’t this social service work?”

The 2023 World Jamboree ‘K-POP SUPER LIVE’ concert is under fire due to its poor stage preparation.

NewJeans performed at the K-POP SUPER LIVE concert, which was held at Sangam World Cup Stadium in Seoul from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on August 11th.

The girl group presented a performance of two songs, “ETA” and “Hype Boy”, as the second artist in the lineup for part 2 of the concert, which started at 8 p.m.

NewJeans arrived at the concert venue early in the morning for the stage rehearsal. Since it was raining at that time, the members sang and danced “Hype Boy” inside a small stage with a tent. The stage was wet due to the rain.

The scene where NewJeans members were preparing for the rehearsal in the waiting area was also captured. Each of them was wearing a name tag and waiting for their turn to go on the stage. Fans pointed out that the members, especially Hanni, looked very tired.

As photos of NewJeans during the rehearsal spread on online communities, netizens poured supportive words for the members, saying “At this point, isn’t it social service work?”, “Korea’s forced service”, “I feel bad for them”, “They look upset because of the situation”, etc.

The reason netizens expressed concerns upon seeing these pictures of NewJeans is due to the controversial 2023 World Scout Jamboree event. It was reported that the Jamboree organizer forcibly gathered several idol singers for the concert in order to solve the controversies surrounding their World Scout Jamboree Festival, which has been held in Saemangeum, Jeollabuk-do from August 1st.

According to some politicians, there was a debate over whether the Ministry of National Defense should request BTS to perform at the K-POP Super Live concert. Regarding that, BTS’s fandom even issued a statement, claiming that it was “anti-democratic behavior”. Harsh criticism from the public also followed.

In the end, BTS couldn’t participate in the concert, but HYBE sent other singers, such as NewJeans and fromis_9, to perform and provided BTS photocards to all Jamboree participants.

In addition, NewJeans member Hyein was also given the important role of hosting the concert with actor Gong Myung.

The lineup of the Jamboree concert includes a total of 19 artists, including NewJeans, IVE, NCT DREAM, ITZY, MAMAMOO, The Boyz, Shownu & Hyungwon, fromis_9, ZB1, Kang Daniel, Kwon Eun Bi, Jo Yu Ri, P1Harmony, KARD, The New Six, ATBO, Xikers, HollyBang, Elephante, etc.
