Controversy Over Daesung Appearing On TV Show Amid G-Dragon’s Drug Scandal, Replay Suspended

Big Bang’s Daesung recently had his first variety appearance after a long hiatus

Daesung reunited with MC Yoo Jae-suk and revealed his recent status on the latest episode of “Hangout With Yoo.” However, the public’s opinions are not always warm toward him. 

Right after the broadcast, Korean netizens on various online communities argue over this topic. Netizens show divided opinions over Daesung’s appearance in an entertainment show. 

Many praise the singer’s witty personality, saying, “Daesung is really good at variety shows, I hope he will be more active on the shows now,” “I’m so happy to see the combination of Yoo Jae-seok and Daesung,” and “The two of them are very good at having funny ’cat-fight’,” while others criticized his appearance in the entertainment show, saying, “Is there a reason to invite Daesung?” “Yoo Jae-seok disappoints me for doing this,” and “There are many celebrities who sing better and are funnier than Daesung, did you have to invite controversial celebrities?” 

Meanwhile, Daesung was criticized for driving his car near the southern end of Yanghwa Bridge in Seoul in May 2011 and crashed into motorcyclist A and later a taxi in front of him. At the time, A was lying on the road due to an earlier traffic accident. However, Daesung has come to an reconciliation with A’s bereaved family, and the bereaved family also had kind words towards the idol.

In 2019, controversy erupted after an illegal entertainment business was caught operating prostitution in a building in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, owned by Daesung. At the time, the police said, “We found no evidence to charge (Daesung) for assisting an unauthorized entertainment bar,” and confirmed that prostitution was also carried out at an outside lodging facility, not Daesung’s building.
