Jang Da-ah: OK With Being Called “Jang Won-young’s Sister,” Dream Of Becoming Actress Because Of ‘My Love from the Star'”

On the YouTube channel “Knock Knock” on May 4th, a video titled “Run away now! But how do you run away with Jang Da-ah? | “Knock Knock Interview EP9” was uploaded. In the video, actress Jang Da-ah, who played the role of villain girl Baek Ha-rin in the original TVing drama “Pyramid Game,” appeared as a guest.

Jang Da-ah, who is known as “Jang Won-young’s sister” even before her debut, confessed, “I’m not uncomfortable with such nicknames before my debut. Because in high school, I wasn’t preparing to become an actress at all, and I was just a student, (so it doesn’t matter). But now that I’m an actress, it’s just natural (to be called like that by people), so I’m not uncomfortable anymore.”

Asked about the reason for giving up Korean traditional dance to become an actress, she shared, “People who don’t know well may think, ‘This girl has been going on the path of a dancer for a long time and suddenly turned on a completely different path.’ But what’s so interesting is that when I was in elementary school, I wrote a memo saying, ‘I’m going to go to this middle school and go to this university.’ What was written in that memo happened. But the last line in the memo was, ‘I’m going to become an actress later.'” Jang mentioned that she had a dream of becoming an actress since childhood.

Jang Da-ah said, “When I was in fifth grade, the drama ‘My Love from the Star’ was a hit. One of the roles I wanted to play someday was a character that was a bit four-dimensional like ‘Cheon Song-yi’. Watching that, I realized I had a certain interest in acting, and when I had time, I went to see a play, a musical by myself, and I never missed watching the dramas in real time. But later on, I didn’t only enjoy the dramas but also started memorizing and copying the lines. I knew what I really liked was to have an actress job.”

“After I finished my college entrance exam, I had a plan. I was waiting for that day. I started acting passionately as if the reins were released, and around that time, I went to several auditions. In the whole process of acting and taking on the role of Ha-rin, Ha-rin was so evil that I had a desperate desire to receive a lot of hate and curses for the character when this work was released,” she said. Jang added, “I knew that I would have to fully understand the role’s thoughts so that there would be no difference when expressing this character.”
