Cha Eun Woo explains his interview answer in mixed English and Korean, “I got very excited because Korea advanced to the Round of 16”
Cha Eun Woo revealed his thoughts on becoming a hot topic in Konglish.
Fashion magazine ELLE Korea uploaded a video titled “I’ll explain this! The truth behind the Konglish meme?” on December 20th.
When asked about his feelings before wrapping up this year, Cha Eun Woo said, “I think I’ve spent a very meaningful year”, adding “Looking back, we had a period of meeting our fans in person at the beginning of the year after the pandemic ended, so I was very happy. A movie I’m starring in is releasing for the first time after my debut. This month, a drama called ‘Island’ will be televised soon, so I think it was a really fun and full year.”
Cha Eun Woo plays the role of exorcist Yo Han in TVing’s drama “Island”. He explained, “He’s a character who tries hard to save the world”, adding “There were a lot of difficult scenes and important scenes of Yo Han in the middle. It wasn’t easy but it was fun. I’m curious about how it turned out too”.
Cha Eun Woo recently attended a fashion event in Egypt and drew keen attention. In response to the comment “You are patriotic with your face”, he got embarrassed and said, “It makes me shy, yet also makes me think and feel grateful”.
He also talked about his Konglish interview. At the fashion event, Cha Eun Woo was seen calmly answering questions from local reporters in English. However, when asked how he felt about South Korea advancing to the Round of 16 at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, he was suddenly confused and accidentally mixed English and Korean, saying “mak” in the middle of his English answer.
Cha Eun Woo laughed and said, “The members watched it yesterday and teased me a lot”, adding “I watched the soccer match with our staff members and we hugged each other. I headed off to the event with a happy heart, and the interviewer asked me about it so I got very excited out of a sudden. But I couldn’t remember the right words, yet I wanted to speak quickly. I’m embarrassed”.
The actor then shared his thoughts on working with Peder Elias. Cha Eun Woo recalled and said, “You know it would be more awkward when you actually meet, right?”. He continued, “There was no reply for months. He heard that I’m very upset, so he sent a text saying ‘Oh sorry’. The feeling of waiting for that was flustering”. He added, “We are the same age, and he’s a great and fun guy. It was very fun working with him, and I love Peder’s songs too”.
