BLACKPINK’s Jennie on false impression about her, major difference between idol image and real-life self

Jennie opens up about things people may not know about her in BLACKPINK’s recent interview with Rolling Stone.

When asked what some misunderstandings about her that people have after she became a celebrity, Jennie mentioned her timid personality. She heard from others that she was lacking confidence when she was younger, even saying hello made her shy. During trainee days, people misapprehended Jennie because she looked like she was angry. But the truth is, she was shy.

After debuting and standing in the public eye, Jennie came out of her shell and became more confident. Because she realized that if she doesn’t interact well with others, it can be a problem.

Jennie has long been famous for her powerful, fierce, and somewhat intimidating image on stage, in MVs, photoshoots, etc. However, the real-life, off-camera Jennie is the opposite of that, so she said the BLACKPINK version of Jennie was a “character” to her.

Still, Jennie added that she wished to have more of her real personality included in her solo music in the future. For instance, besides upbeat music with “swag” vibes and cool raps, she wanted to do mellow, emotional music too. Jennie revealed she practiced R&B when she was a trainee, so it would be fun if she could try out genres that perhaps most listeners don’t expect from her.
