“Untold Scandal”: A movie which was banned by Bae Yong-joon’s Japanese fans

Based on Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ novel “Les Liaisons dangereuses”, “Untold Scandal” takes place in late 18th century Korea, during the Joseon dynasty.

The film itself is regarded as a considerable masterpiece, and the actors’ performance was well received.

It was a work that showed a lot of interest overseas, but strangely, in Japan, where Bae Yong-joon was very popular, “Untold Scandal” was treated as Bae Yong-joon’s embarrassing work.

While critics and cinephiles liked it in Japan, Bae Yong-joon‘s fans, who should be the main audience, responded that because of Bae Yong-joon’s playboy appearance and excessive bed scenes, they can be disappointed if they think about his image in “Winter Sonata” while watching “Untold Scandal”.

For this reason, there was a post advising not to watch this movie on Bae Yong-joon’s Japanese fan site. It was also selected as a banned film by Japanese fans.
