Nominations for Asian Academy Creative Awards 2022 released [Official]

Four titles produced by Studio Dragon were nominated for various categories at the 2022 AACA.

The Asian Academy Creative Awards (AACA), held in Singapore every December, is Asia’s largest content awards ceremony that reviews and awards the Asian content market for the year. Although it has been held online for the past two years due to the influence of the global pandemic, the offline awards ceremony will resume in 2022.

Four titles produced by Studio Dragon were nominated for the 2022 AACA, and the results will be released at the awards ceremony in early December. Yoo Je-won was named for “Best Direction”, “Twenty Five, Twenty One” for Best Drama Series, Noh Hee-kyung for “Best Screenplay”, and Yumi’s Cells Season 1 and 2 for “Best Original Program by a Streamer/OTT”.

Twenty Five Twenty One

First of all, director Yoo Je-won, who directed “Hometown Cha Cha Cha” was nominated for the “Best Direction” category. Director Yoo Je-won has presented numerous hits, experimenting with various genres such as “Hi Bye, Mama!” “Oh My Ghost” and “High School King of Savvy”. “Hometown Chachacha” was also well-received for portraying the romance between the male and female protagonists as well as the beautiful harmony of villagers against the backdrop of a sea village.

In the Best Drama Series category, “Twenty-five Twenty-one” was named. It is a refreshing romance depicting the wandering and growth of young people who were deprived of their dreams by the times in 1998. The series was  loved by viewers around the world earlier this year. Studio Dragon won the “Best Drama Series” in 2020 for “Crash Landing on You”.

Next, Noh Hee-kyung, writer of “Our Blues” was named in the “Best Screenplay” category. It’s a drama that gives a cheer for the sweet and bitter life of everyone who stands at the end, peak, or beginning of their lives. In the same category in 2020, writer Yeon Sang-ho won the award.

Finally, in the “Best Original Programme by a streamer/OTT” category, Season 1 and 2 of “Yumi’s Cells” were nominated. TVING original “Yumi’s Cells” is a series based on webtoons of the same name, and has received rave reviews for its successful webtoon-based drama by combining live-action and animation for the first time in Korea.

Nominated for AACA, “Hometown Chachacha”, “Twenty-five Twenty-one” and “Our Blues” are currently being serviced through Netflix around the world, while “Yumi’s Cells” are being serviced through TVING.

Meanwhile, the AACA Awards, which will compete with numerous works from various countries, including Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, the Philippines, China, Japan, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Australia and Vietnam. The event will be held in Singapore from December 7 to 8.
