“Extraordinary Attorney Woo” miracle has disappeared… Ji Sung’s drama with worst ratings → “Good Job” director change controversy

Since “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” has already ended, the follow-up dramas are suffering hard in attracting the viewers’ attention.

After “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”, which recorded a viewer rating of up to 17.5% and achieved syndrome-level popularity like a miracle, ended, three new Wednesday-Thursday dramas have been introduced. Amid speculations about which one will take the lead among the three follow-up series and among ongoing dramas, all three works, which are “Good Job”, “Adamas” and “If You Wish Upon Me”, are suffering controversies and sluggish performances, drawing attention to the outcome of the competition.

Adamas

As “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” dominated the small screen, KBS2’s “If You Wish Upon Me” and tvN’s “Adamas” were inevitably affected. Although Ji Chang-wook and Sooyoung’s drama “If You Wish Upon Me” is currently the only Wednesday-Thursday drama on terrestrial channels, it failed to win the public’s interest as its ratings fell to the 1% range after 4 episodes. Meanwhile, “Adamas,” which made headlines with Ji Sung playing a double role, is also staying in the 2-3% range.

What’s more disappointing is that “Adamas” is currently the work that recorded the lowest rating performance among all the dramas starring trustworthy actor Ji Sung, who is already in the 24th year of his acting career. Previously, Ji Sung hit the jackpot when he appeared in “New Heart”, “Secret Love”, “Kill Me, Heal Me”, “Innocent Defendant”, and “Doctor John”. The viewer ratings of “The Devil Judge” and “Familiar Wife”, which are the two drams with relatively, also did not fall below the 4% range. However, since the lowest rating of “Adamas” is currently 2.7%, it is being pointed out as the worst work in Ji Sung’s solid filmography.

Extraordinary Attorney Woo

What caused the sluggish performance of the above dramas is not only “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”. “If You Wish Upon Me” contains stories of patients who were about to die and gives off an excessively heavy atmosphere that doesn’t match the healing sentiment the public wants to see. In the case of “Adamas”, it is preventing new viewers from taking a look at the drama with complex developments and continuous plot twists.

In the meantime, “Good Job,” which is announced as the follow-up drama to “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”, was hit hard by controversies over the change of director, which caused the image of the work to be severely damaged even before its official broadcast. The controversy arose in July, a month before the first broadcast, when JTBC Entertainment News reported that director Ryu Seung-jin dropped out of the project and director Kang Min-gu joined the filming.

At that time, Korean media raised suspicions that the director’s withdrawal was the result of a conflict between the director and the actors, but the production team denied such rumors, stating that the decision was made after sufficient discussions. They said, “As we reported earlier, what happened was not because of a conflict with the actors”.

However, the explanation of the production team still left an uncomfortable feeling in the viewers. Fans are also raising concerns over what variables the sudden replacement of the director will occur and affect the quality of the work. On top of that, anticipation for the collaboration of Jung Il-woo and Yuri, who reunited again after “Bossam”, is at risk of decreasing.

That’s why it is hard to predict which drama will take the new throne even after “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” ended. Ji Chang-wook and Ji Sung, who have had many hits, seem to be struggling with their ongoing works, and “Good Job” has even shown internal problems. As a result, viewers who were enthusiastic about “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” are curious about what drama will gain the most attention this time or whether they will quit watching Wednesday-Thursday dramas.
