Jang Ki-yong Reveals Feelings About Making Comeback With Drama “The Atypical Family” 

Actor Jang Ki-yong is returning to the small screen for the first time in three years through the new drama “The Atypical Family”

On April 2nd, the press conference for JTBC’s new Sat-Sun drama “The Atypical Family” was held at Standford Hotel in Sangam-dong, Seoul with the attendance of Jang Ki-yong, Chun Woo-hee, Soo-hyun, Park So-yi and director Cho Hyun-tak.

“The Atypical Family” is a fantasy romance based on a webtoon in which Bok Gwi-joo (Jang Ki-yong), a man who has superpowers but loses his abilities due to chronic disease, however, his life changes after getting intertwined with Do Da-hae (Chun Woo-hee).

The drama aroused keen attention as it’s the comeback project Jang Ki-yong three years after completing his military service. He enlisted as an active duty soldier in August 2021 and was discharged from the military in February last year. His previous work was SBS’s 2022 drama “Now, We Are Breaking Up”, starring alongside Song Hye-kyo.

Expressing his feelings at the press conference, Jang Ki-yong said, “Looking back on my 20s, I was really busy. I took a necessary break for the first time for one year and a half. Returning to work after serving in the military, I felt a sense of stability”.

Regarding the changes after the military hiatus, the actor shared, “Back then, I used to feel like being chased by something and I was always in a hurry. For the first time, I felt peace in my mind while preparing for this drama. I spent my time more slowly and leisurely”.

Explaining the reason he chose “The Atypical Family” as his comeback work, Jang Ki-yong said, “The script was very interesting. I felt like I could show an unexpected performance through this drama”.

JTBC’s new Sat-Sun drama “The Atypical Family” will premiere at 10:30 p.m. on May 4th.
