HyunA’s Return after 2 Years: Various Intimate Scenes but Ignored by the Public?

Despite finally making her return to the K-pop industry after 2 years, HyunA’s latest comeback isn’t doing well.

After nearly 2 years of silence, “The Sexy Icon of Kpop” –  HyunA officially returned with the EP “Attitude” and the title track “Q&A”. This is also the first album that HyunA released under her new management agency, At Area, after leaving PSY’s P Nation in August 2022.

Contrary to her previous lively music style, this comeback from HyunA suddenly became “more gentle.” The entire MV also captures moments of a loving couple with many intimate scenes between HyunA and her male co-star. The highlight is at the end, where HyunA and the male lead share a passionate kiss in the pool.

However, HyunA’s comeback after 2 years doesn’t seem to impress the public nor K-pop fans.

Particularly, “Q&A” completely disappeared from Korean music charts, only reaching #132 on Genie. Meanwhile, the song’s MV didn’t even reach 100 thousand YouTube views after 5 hours of release, showing an alarming sign. The only notable achievement of HyunA’s comeback so far is her 1st-day album sales, which reached 10,372 copies – the highest among all of HyunA’s albums.

At the same time, some opinions suggest that HyunA’s music this time is better than during her time under PSY’s company, but doesn’t match the public’s taste. Moreover, HyunA’s characteristic high-pitch voice is completely absent in this song, leaving many unable to recognize it as a “HyunA track”.

Below are some comments from netizens:

  • She doesn’t bring anything new or refreshing. Every MV is just scenes of two people hugging and kissing, it’s bland! But the music is okay, just not my taste, so it seems ordinary.
  • There’s nothing “wrong” with the song, but it sounds too generic.
  • It sounds like someone else is singing since HyunA’s signature tone was missing..
  • The music itself is better than what she released under PSY. However, since there’s no shock factor, it just passes through the ears without any impact.
