Han Seo-hee, from drug use during probation to profanities in court, her appeals court also resulted in a prison sentence
Han Seo-hee, a former idol trainee, appealed to the court and denied all charges, but was dismissed and given a confirmed sentence of a year and a half.
On April 29th, the Suwon District Court’s Criminal Court Department 3-2 (Chief Judge Jin Se-ri) rejected Han’s appeal on April 29th, who was indicted on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act.
Han Seo-hee was indicted on charges of smoking marijuana and was sentenced to three years in prison and four years of probation in September 2017. However, during the probation period, as her urine test which was conducted unexpectedly by the probation office tested positive for psychotropic drugs such as methamphetamine and amphetamines, Han Seo-hee was detained at the probation office. Han Seo-hee claimed there was an urine test error and was released after her hair test at the National Forensic Service came out as negative.
Later, the prosecution’s investigation cleared her of certain charges and she was indicted again on charges of administering methamphetamine in June 2020. Han Seo-hee denied the indictment, claiming that she did not use methamphetamine in the first and second trials.
The first trial court sentenced Han Seo-hee to a year and a half in prison, which is higher than the one-year sentence in prison demanded by the prosecution, and Han Seo-hee was immediately arrested in court. At that time, Han Seo-hee raised controversy by swearing at the judge in court, saying, “Oh, XX, for real.”
After the first trial, Han Seo-hee appealed for leniency by submitting a letter of apology and apologizing for her profanities in court.
The second trial court said, “If we look at the evidence that the lower court rejected the defendant’s denial of the charges, the lower court’s judgment seems reasonable,” adding, “We considered that the defendant had committed a crime again during the probation period and did not admit or reflect on that crime.”
Meanwhile, Han Seo-hee was sentenced to one and a half years in prison by the appellate court following the original trial.
