From “Vincenzo” to “Big Mouth”, the unfortunate fate of Kwak Dong Yeon’s K-drama characters
K-drama writers like to make Kwak Dong Yeon suffer on the screen.
In the ongoing drama “Big Mouth”, rising actor Kwak Dong Yeon transforms into Jerry, a conman imprisoned in Gu Cheon with Park Chang Ho and a huge fan of Big Mouse. He once again plays a character with an unfortunate fate. In the latest development, he almost dies saving Park Chang Ho (Lee Jong Suk).
Since Jerry is a diehard fan of the notorious conman Big Mouse, he is always loyal to Park Chang Ho as he thinks Park Chang Ho is the real Big Mouse. In episode 8, Jerry attempted to save Park Chang Ho and got into a serious car accident that almost took away his life.
Kwak Dong Yeon has repeatedly portrayed characters that either end up dying or are close to death in different K-dramas. Kwak Dong Yeon’s character Kim Byung Yeon in the 2016 drama “Love In The Moonlight”, a loyal guard, sacrifices himself to protect Crown Prince Lee Young (Park Bo Gum) after being slashed in the chest. Fortunately, Kim Byung Yeon was later discovered still alive after suffering a deadly wound.
In “Doctor Detective” (2019), Kwak Dong Yeon’s character Jung Ha Rang passed away in a train accident early on in the drama. Jung Ha Rang is an engineer who repairs barriers. He is an employee of subcontractor TL Metro. He wants to become a full-time employee for a larger company because his old job is about to be taken over.
In the final episode of “Vincenzo” (2021), Kwak Dong Yeon’s character Jang Han Seo died after trying to stop his villainous brother. He was killed by his own brother. He had his last breath in the arms of Vincenzo (Song Joong Ki).
In the 2022 horror drama “Monstrous”, Kwak Dong Yeon plays Yong Joo, a trouble maker. In the chaotic scene of zombies invading on the bus, Yong Joo was attacked by a resident losing control and became a flesh-eating monster himself. He dies from being impaled afterwards.
