From overuse of English to broadcasting accidents, the 2022 MAMA Awards are as controversial as how viral it is

The 2022 MAMA Awards finished its 1st day of the ceremony, leaving as much regret as its related viral topics online.

Singer Jeon So Mi appeared as a host on the first day of the 2022 MAMA Awards held at Kyocera Dome in Osaka, Japan on November 29th (KST).

During the ceremony, Jeon So Mi hosted the show flexibly without showing any sign of nervousness in front of such a large crowd, while digesting English, Japanese as well as Korean.

However, even though MAMA is a K-POP-oriented award ceremony hosted by a Korean organizer, the show used mostly English instead of Korean throughout the broadcast. Even at the end of the broadcast, there was no Korean at all.

For example, the stage during the performance of dance crew YGX, which drew attention through “Street Woman Fighter” and “Street Man Fighter,” suddenly turned dark. The backstage was also suddenly shown while FORESTELLA was hosting the stage.

In addition, while artists such as LE SSERAFIM and IVE were performing, the full camera view showing the concert hall continuously appeared to the extent that viewers couldn’t watch the choreography properly, causing frustration.

The 2nd day of the 2022 MAMA Awards, which will be held on Nov 30th, will be broadcast live on Mnet from 16:00 for the red carpet and 18:00 for the main award ceremony. The 3 main awards, including “Singer of the Year,” “Song of the Year” and “Album of the Year,” was evaluated by professional judges and indicators and will be awarded on this day.

The host of the 2nd day will be Park Bo Gum. The artist lineup will include 3RACHA (Stray Kids), ENHYPEN, (G)I-DLE, INI, ITZY, IVE, JAURIM, Jung Jae Il, J-HOPE, Lim Young Woong, Monika, New Jeans, Niziu, Tempest, Tiger JK, Treasure, and Zico.
