Forbes Korea reveals 6 most popular foreign female idols: BLACKPINK’s Rosé, TWICE’s Sana, and more
Here are 6 most well-loved foreign female idols according to Forbes Korea.
There are many famous K-pop idols who were not born in Korea. Recently, Forbes Korea held a survey to select the top favorite foreign female idols. Voting took place from November 26 to December 10 with the participation of 146,380 K-pop fans.
Ranking 1st place is Handong of Dreamcatcher. The Chinese female idol received 14,079 votes which account for 44.61% out of 31,558 total votes. At first, Handong went to Korea to study musical acting. Handong’s university professor saw her potential and recommended her to an audition. In 2017, Handong debuted as a K-pop idol. She is also the only foreign member of Dreamcatcher.
Coming in second place is BLACKPINK’s Rosé. She was born in New Zealand and then moved to Australia. Rosé’s father and sister are both successful lawyers. However, the female idol’s family did not force Rosé to follow the same path. Rosé’s father signed up for her to join YG’s audition in Australia. After learning that she passed the audition, Rosé‘s father supported her to come to Korea to start her trainee life at YG.
In TWICE, more than half of the members are foreigners, with Sana as the most popular one. The Japanese female idol is famous for her pretty face, attractive body and adorable personality. During Sana’s last year of high school, she was on her way to buy gifts for her classmates when she received an invitation to join an audition from a JYP staff member. Sana was then scouted by the company and traveled to Korea to begin training.
The 4th and 5th positions in this list both belong to 2 Chinese female idols, Yuqi ((G) I-DLE) and Chengxiao (Cosmic Girls). According to many sources, Yuqi is said to come from a wealthy family. Since her childhood, she has been living in an expensive apartment in Beijing. In addition, her phone and clothes are all from high-end brands.
Meanwhile, Cosmic Girls’ Chengxiao is praised by netizens for her doll-like beauty. Before becoming a trainee in Korea, she had about 10 years of training at a traditional dance academy. In addition, she also studied gymnastics at a martial arts school in Shenzhen. Thanks to that, Chengxiao has a very flexible body and is now Cosmic Girls’ main dancer.
The last place on this list belongs to Vivi of the group LOONA. Vivi was praised for her luxurious aura and sharp visuals. She realized her dream of becoming an idol thanks to watching BIGBANG and 2NE1’s videos when she was a child. Therefore, she decided to go to Korea to make her idol dream come true.
This ranking chart of favorite foreign female K-pop idols lacks a few prominent names such as Tzuyu (TWICE) or Lisa (BLACKPINK). However, the list above is still widely recognized because a total of 87 countries voted.
