On January 2, Kevin Oh, the husband of star actress Gong Hyo-jin, enlisted in the Korean military quietly. Regarding this move, his agency stated, “He was eligible for enlistment due to having dual citizenship of Korea and the United States, and he did not renounce his U.S. citizenship to enlist.”
Previously, there were reports that Kevin Oh gave up his U.S. citizenship to enlist, but this was not true. If he serves in the military before turning 35, he can maintain dual citizenship of Korea and the United States as it is now. However, if he does not do so, he will have to live only as an American, as Korean citizenship will be applied before reaching 35.
Meanwhile, Kevin Oh became known through the 2015 Mnet program “Superstar K7”. While active as a singer in Korea, he admitted to dating actress Gong Hyo-jin in April 2022, who is 10 years older than him, and they officially became a married couple by holding a wedding ceremony in New York in October of the same year.
Regarding Kevin Oh’s enlistment reason, his agency told media outlet OSEN, “Kevin Oh enlisted in the military to expand his musical activities based in Korea and for a stable family life with his wife, Gong Hyo-jin.”
The singer himself also relayed his thoughts, saying, “Thanks to Korea, I was able to live and unfold a new music life, so I wanted to return from my duty and continue to play good music to share warmth with my fans and many people.”
“We ask for continuous support and love until the day Kevin Oh sincerely completes his military service and returns. We, too, will not spare our affection and support for the artist so that he can continue to deliver good music to fans”, Kevin Oh’s agency also stated.
