BLACKPINK’s “Pink Venom”: No.1 on SBS and MBC, but “unqualified” on KBS

It was confirmed that BLACKPINK’s new song “Pink Venom” was excluded from the rankings of KBS’ music program “Music Bank” after being judged “unqualified” by KBS’ own deliberation.

This is in contrast to winning first place on music programs of other broadcasting stations such as SBS, MBC and Mnet.

According to KBS on September 5th, “Pink Venom” was excluded from the data for “K-Chart” (Music Bank’s chart) in the first week of September. KBS explained that the song was not allowed to enter the rankings as it was judged not to be broadcast as a result of internal deliberation by the broadcasting station. According to KBS’ “Song Review Results” on August 24th, “Pink Venom” was judged “inappropriate” for violating Article 46 “Limiting Advertising effects” under Korean broadcasting law, whereby the song named the brand of a particular product. In the lyrics of the song, French luxury brand Celine was mentioned.

In such a case, singers and their agencies normally request a new review section after changing the lyrics in the parts that violated the regulations, however, YG Entertainment reportedly did not revise their songs. To singers who work mainly in the domestic market, rankings on music shows held by TV broadcasting stations are very important for their promotion. Meanwhile, the rankings on TV music programs do not affect the performance of BLACKPINK since the girl group already has overwhelmingly huge popularity in the overseas market, which is much larger than that in Korea. Therefore, SBS’ “Inkigayo” is the one and only TV music show that BLACKPINK came to perform “Pink Venom”.

“Pink Venom” topped other TV music programs such as MBC M’s “Show Champion”, Mnet’s “M Countdown” and SBS’ “Inkigayo”.

After releasing their 2nd full-length album “BORN PINK” on September 16th, BLACKPINK will launch a world tour starting from Seoul on October 15th~16th to North America, Europe, Asia and Oceania.
