“15th debut anniversary” IU, the last “Nation’s Singer” that Korean popular music can produce in the 21st century

From “Nation’s Little Sister” to “Nation’s Singer”, IU (Lee Ji Eun) will celebrate her 15th debut anniversary on Sep 18th

IU made her debut with “Lost Child” on Mnet’s “M Countdown” on Sep 18th, 2008, when she was in the 9th grade. She gained attention as a “young girl singer” who could play musical instruments and had vocal talent. She gradually increased her popularity by singing and creating cherished music. She evolved into a singer-songwriter with artistic qualities. Finally, last year, she became a true top-tier singer by entering the Seoul Olympic Main Stadium, becoming the first Korean female artist to do so. IU’s value goes beyond that of a singer-songwriter; she also excels as a planner, as evidenced by her concert at the Seoul Olympic Main Stadium.

She earned recognition as an actress, too. Her acting skills were acknowledged through dramas such as “You Are the Best!” (2012), “The Producers” (2015), “Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo” (2016) and “My Mister” (2018). Especially last year, she left a strong mark on the big screen with the movie “Broker”. She achieved a hat-trick of Best New Actress awards at the 27th Chunsa Film Art Awards, the 42nd Korean Association of Film Critics Awards and the 42nd Golden Cinematography Awards. She fulfills her social responsibilities through consistent charity activities with her fandom Uaena.

IU, who turned 30 this year, proves that miracles are not far from our daily lives. She has been suffering from patulous Eustachian tube for a long time but has hidden it, fighting her battle alone. Her dedication demonstrates that a good singer is not just someone who sings well but also someone who has experienced suffering. This depth allows her to be better prepared and empathetic in various situations. That is the reason why IU, who honestly talks about her pain, is more trustworthy. IU recently successfully completed her first media art exhibition “Moment,”. The film “IU Concert: The Golden Hour”, which was released at CGV the day before, topped the box office reservations. Her first fan concert “2023 IU Fan Concert – I+UN1VER5E” to be held at the KSPO DOME on Sep 23rd~24th, sold out instantly.
