The reason why some scenes in Netflix’s “Black Knight” were all CG

It was reported that some scenes in Netflix’s “Black Knight” were all CG (computer graphics).

Director Cho Ui Seok of “Black Knight” revealed secrets in the drama through an interview held on May 15th. Director Cho mentioned Kim Woo Bin’s performance in an interview with media outlets held at a cafe in Sogyeok-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul this morning.

Director Cho, who worked with Kim Woo Bin again after the movie “Master”, said, “Kim Woo Bin acts well and has a good physical condition. After returning from illness (nasopharyngeal cancer), his eyes deepened and his voice gained strength. He and 5-8 were well matched.”

Director Cho then confessed, “He was sick but fortunately recovered. While he was thinking about what kind of work he would do, I invited him to appear in ‘Black Knight’. At first, I thought it might be hard because he didn’t have very good stamina, but he didn’t use stand-ins much for action scenes and did it himself.”

However, as Kim Woo Bin had health problems, it is known that smoking scenes that appeared in the series were replaced with CG.

Director Cho explained, “In the original work, 5-8 is a smoker. I thought a lot about it. With the help of the CG team, I made 5-8’s smoking scenes with 100% CG.”

Netflix’s series “Black Knight”, which was released on May 12th, depicts a dystopian future where extensive air pollution has destroyed most of the world and forced the people who are still alive to depend on elite delivery drivers for survival.

In this 6-episode series, there were many smoking scenes of Kim Woo Bin (as 5-8). Because of this, posts wondering whether he actually smoked were uploaded online.

This is because Kim Woo Bin had been fighting for a long time after being diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer in 2017. The nasopharynx is the top part of the throat (pharynx).

Netizens who learned that Kim Woo Bin’s smoking scenes were all CGs commented, “Wow, it’s so natural“, “That’s CG??? It’s not obvious at all“, “I was worried. It’s a good thing these scenes were all CG“…

As of May 15th, three days after its release, “Black Knight” topped Netflix’s “Today’s Top 10 Series in Korea”.
